“Family stay in Singapore”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

My decision to choose this Hotel was based upon its pool!
We spent several days in Singapore on our way from Frankfurt to Brisbane, travelling with our three year old child. We only planned to visit family, visit Zoo and swim. Check in process was reasonable, however we did struggle finding our way to our room, may have been influenced by jet lag though.
Next morning we enjoyed our breakfast and was fortunate to be attended by a lovely waitress who packaged some leftovers for us to share later.
We learnt from this waitress that the Fullerton Bay Hotel, being a sister establishment, was able to be accessed by guests. Wonderful, we were able to use their pool too (which was quite wonderful, together with the spectacular view and glass spas)!
The room itself was somewhat cramped with our luggage and a single rollaway bed, it felt dated, certainly not 'fresh'.
Yes, despite being satisfied with its location and pool, I think we may try somewhere else next time (taking into account its cost).

Enjoyed a very comfortable stay for a short three day business trip.
Excellent pick up service from the airport and luxury room.
Close to many nice restaurants and in the middle of the business district.

Absolutely superb hotel, one of the best! Excellent staff (friendly, efficient and helpful), very comfortable and luxurious, beautiful views from bedroom (mine overlooked the river), good food, perfect location.... Can't fault it in any way.

We had three suites at the Fullerton for a family celebration, two Palladian, and one Fullerton.

The Palladian suites have spectacular views over the river, and one had an accessible balcony as well. The Fullerton looked out to the coast and the business district, with views of the Singapore Flyer and the Marina Bay Sands. The Fullerton is actually slightly smaller than the Palladian despite costing more, and one could argue the views are less impressive – and you are also an object of interest for the thousands of offices looking down into it (you can draw the privacy blinds but why destroy the view)? Rooms are well furnished but, like an ageing debutante, are starting to show their age. Carpets are worn, paint touch-ups are evident, wear and tear visible. the technology is clumsy – obsolete membrane touch panels and infrared sensors control things in an often frustrating and inconvenient way – very 90’s. Curtain limit switches need adjusting. TVs are functional, but outdated. Cupboard hinges are slack and there aren’t enough power points for all the kit we carry these days. One aircon thermostat didn’t work which meant you froze or stifled and nothing in between. The Fullerton suite balcony was nice but noisy owing to the main air handling systems on the roof above. Windows are not double glazed - not only would this dramatically reduce outside noise but it would also reduce the cooling bill for the hotel. Other frustrations were the tissue boxes which emptied in a few pulls and half size toilet rolls – is this some sort of cost saving measure? Toiletries are good, nice Bulgari items, towels fluffy and the bathrobes wonderfully soft. The beds remain superb, with lovely bed linen. The pillow menu verges on the obsessive. The bathrooms are uniformly grand, beautifully equipped and covered in warm marble. Luxury. A soft close toilet seat would be a useful addition though. Housekeeping kept the room and bathrooms pretty clean but there was dust on the bathroom scales and under several accessible surfaces that didn’t move during our stay.

Unusually, given the premium booking, we weren’t shown to our rooms on checking in and as a result we took some time to work out the quirky controls mentioned above. Other than that, service and staff attitudes were uniformly excellent, with particular credit due for the doormen, and the staff at the Straits Club. We were surprised to see a room service trolley with open food sit in a corridor near our rooms for over four hours while hotel staff squeezed past it; surely one of them could have taken it away?

The Straits Club option is brilliant and everyone should go for this. It offers a great breakfast with champagne if you want it, tea and coffee all day, an excellent afternoon tea with the best ever cucumber sandwiches and hot scones with clotted cream. The evening Happy Hour is splendid, with unlimited champagne, cocktails and a really good buffet. All this is inclusive with the room. We found the Club met almost all our needs, and it was made special by the outstanding staff there, who cannot go to enough trouble for you. We were also much impressed by the hotel recognising from the birthday cards on display in the suite that one of us had a significant birthday; when we returned after a trip to the zoo we had a tasty cake, a card from the manager and a birthday candle waiting for us.

The Fullerton’s location is simply superb, it must be the best location in Singapore. It is handy for everything and it remains a beacon of classic design amidst the amorphous and standardised hotel world that surrounds it. It’s due a refresh, but one hopes that the essential character and charm of this grande dame in Singapore is not lost in the process.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room looking out into the bay or the river. Book the Straits Club option - it wi...

Spent just 1 night here to break up a long-haul flight and was impressed by the service and facilities - it has everything you can imagine and the breakfast was phenomenal. Great location too with the river & many sights within walking distance. Our departing flight was late on our second night & they kindly let us use the pool & shower facilities after checking out. Recommended.

From arrival at an inconvenient time until departure this is one of the best short stay business visits I have ever had.
Check in was smooth and efficient, the two conference was well organised, the Straits Club location, staff and offering are all excellent. Friends were visiting Singapore on vacation and took high tea with me one afternoon and they are still talking about the experience.
Rooms and facilities are highly recommended. A real Five Star hotel.

Room Tip: I had an inside courtyard view which was fine as I was out and about but recommend external view
