Certificate of Excellence

Great hotel but a bit expensive. Excellent service from all levels of staff. Buffet breakfast offering and service is excellent. Hotel is what you expect from a Grand Hyatt property. Excellent location to shopping and public transportation system. Only downside to location is difficulty for taxi to have to negotiate a u-turn which can take time during rush hour. Faster way is get dropped across street and just walk to hotel during rush hour. Rooms are spacious and modern.

Stayed here 3 nights with our toddler. Outstanding staff and service. Room was nice and clean. Great location in Orchard Rd. area, easily accessible to sites. Only downside is that prices for everything at the hotel are very expensive, probably because it caters to business travelers.

I was here for 6 nights. My colleagues (who were here only a few nights) were in the back of the hotel in the new rooms. These looked lovely. I was in the front of the hotel, near the construction. Despite being 8 floors above the construction, I could hear the jack-hammers and other noise very clearly.

The Pros:
• Great location near Orchard Road
• Easy to get a cab
• Breakfast buffet was impressive
• Best coffee I had in Singapore
• Sunday brunch with unlimited champagne was completely worth the money (make a reservation)
• Happy hour until 10pm will save you a lot of money on drinks
• Scale was broken when I checked in, but housekeeping must have noticed and replaced it during my stay without my having to request it.
• There are umbrellas to borrow when it rains (and it will).

The Cons:
• Construction was very audible, and starts promptly at 9am during the week, and (almost) 10am on weekends
• Despite a complimentary upgrade, I can't tell if I'm in a new or old room. There was plenty of space, but no bath, sink drained slowly, toilet was hard to flush and often smelled like sulfur (possibly related?), tv was old and sounded static-y.
• Show shine was complimentary, but not terribly good. My shoes looked slightly better, but still plenty of visible scuffs.
• Wifi was pretty slow.
• Concierge promised to book a table for me for the Sunday brunch and call my room to confirm. The table was booked, but I got no confirmation message.

If you stay here during construction, make sure to ask for a room at the back of the hotel and you'll be much happier. All in all, a decent hotel but it will probably be fantastic once construction is complete.

Do not miss the "free-flowing" champagne brunch on Sundays - worth every penny.

Room Tip: Ask for a new room in the tower at the back of the hotel.

This hotel is well positioned to the shopping district and has excellent service. The rooms were well designed , and quiet. The lighting in the bathroom was not strong enough to really see well ( especially applying make up!).

I want to thank Mr. Azlan Hassan for making our stay at the Grand Hyatt-Singapore from November 20th to November 24th, 2013 an exceptional one.

Our flight from San Francisco was delayed, therefore, our arrival to your hotel was not until 3AM. Unfortunately, the two-bed non-smoking room which was originally requested was not available. My room mate and I had to sleep in a room designated for smokers. The next day, I was told that a non-smoking room with two beds would not be available until the following week. The only other option was a king bed non-smoking room with a rolled in cot. This would not work for us.

I spoke with Mr. Azlan Hassan, and he was able to move us to a non-smoking room two bed room without any hesitation. I explained that due to my health conditions, I could not remain in the smoking room. He graciously moved us. I was very impressed with his concern to ensure our stay was a positive experience. Mr. Hassan is a valued asset to the Grand Hyatt family and should be recognized for his exemplary service. As a result of Mr. Hassan customer service, we had a memorable time at the Grand Hyatt.

Thank you Mr. Hassan for making our stay a very enjoyable one.

Room Tip: Definitely enjoy the buffet breakfast at the Straits--wonderful selection.

stayed a night for business. Overall impression is of a well managed hotel of an iconic status.
I prefer this property to others more or less "fancy" places in town. They come and go - the classics stay forever.
Was able to enjoy complimentary early check in and late check out.
Rooms are big for Singapore standard. Some of the rooms may need some physical upgrade but they work on it and some floors are already renovated...

Definitely come back on my annual trips.

The resourceful Travelling Gourmet samples Peranakan Cuisine at Grand Hyatt…

by Dr. Michael Lim The Travelling GourmetTM

MANY varieties of local food can be tasted here in what some misguided persons decry as a high class food court. However, bear in mind that the food quality, food hygiene, and presentation of the dishes like Satay, Ayam Buah Keluak and Indian Garlic Naan, terrific Topshell & Scallop Soup Double Boiled, Roast Duck with sweet plum sauce, Hainanese Chicken Rice with fresh cucumber & tomato, Popiah made a la minute, Carrot Cake and Butter Chicken is much, much better than in your lowly food court. My lament is that the Buah Keluak is now put on a plate with NO pork, instead of being stuffed inside the Buah Keluak shells with minced pork, as it should be in the time honoured Baba-Nyonya fashion. I know, you see…because I am a true-blue Baba. Well, perhaps they have to because no pork is served here as it has a Halal kitchen so Muslims and Orthodox Jews can dine here
The desserts like assorted Nyonya Kueh-Mueh, Ice Kachang with Durian Ice Cream & Chendol are also yummy! Ton of other dessrts too and fresh tropical fruits like longans and Dragon fruit to name a few. Enjoy baby!

Enjoy! {:-)

Dear ThetravellingG0urmet,
Thank you so much for your in-depth review of StraitsKitchen on TripAdvisor. We were extremely glad to read that you enjoyed the variety of local dishes on offer in the restaurant. Also, like you mentioned although the Buah Keluak is a Peranakan dish typically incorporating minced pork, as StraitsKitchen is a Halal-certified kitchen, we have tweaked the recipe such that our Muslim and Orthodox Jew guests may also enjoy the dish. Your compliments will definitely be passed on to the Chefs and we certainly look forward to welcoming you back again very soon.
Best regards,
