We stayed for 3 nights on a stopover to Australia. The hotel is in a very location and close to MRT. The staff were very friendly, especially Allen on reception who was very friendly and efficient in dealing with our enquiries. Our room was spacious, very clean and with simple decor. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. An all round good hotel.

Park Royal Hotel, Beach Road, Singapore

Two years back we passed through Singapore and, based on a personal recommendation, stayed at the Park Royal for a few days – it turned out to be a good choice. Check out the previous review from June 2017 - good things were much the same this time round too. Negatives? This time they were hardly worth mentioning. The Park Royal delivers.

As you’d expect the place was much the same – crescent shaped structure rising to seven stories on Beach Road opposite the ‘Arab Quarter’. For those of you who like the cuisine of North Africa/Middle East, this is where you explore the different tables of an evening. Eat at the upper end of Bussorah Street and you’ll over-look the iconic Madjid Sultan/Mosque. Exit the hotel, cross the footbridge in front of you and you’re in Bussorah Street.

The hotel comes highly recommended, but it’s not cheap and, as we said before more ‘middle of the road’ given general costs in Singapore. We paid S$1,485 (US$1,098) for five nights with breakfast (i.e. S$297/night). Two years back it had been S$939 (US$680) for four nights (i.e. S$235/night). So, an increase of S$62/night or 6.5% (over 2017 costs). Reasonable? You’d need to follow local trends to make some kind of comparison.

The hotel remains efficient, well-located, comfortable and friendly. There is a lot to like about the place including everything that we liked earlier – this thing about continuity.
It was an easy taxi run to and from Changi Airport. We paid S$27 incoming and S$17 return (plus S$2 mancia each time). Costs the same as two years back. The MRT (Metro) would have been cheaper, but we had too many bags.
Access downtown is easy by bus and/or MRT. Catch the no. 100 bus on Beach Road. The MRT Bugis station (EW12) is 10 minutes walk and/or Nicoll Highway station (CC5) – immediately behind the hotel – five minutes walk. Buy your ticket/add money as you enter the station at the ticket machine.
If you choose to walk - the Merlion is around 40 minutes and straight down Beach Road through the original ‘colonial’ centre. Exit the hotel turn left. Lots to see. Recommended.
The hotel has a comfortable laid-back approach towards its guests – once checked in you are essentially ‘on your own’. Comfortable.
There are great breakfasts available – all you could possibly want to eat from a selection of Chinese, English, American and Continental choices. Great quantities of fresh fruits. The window seats are still the best option – the spaciousness of the outside (seen through glass) compared to the sometimes crowded breakfast room (if you eat at peak hours).
Last, but not least, there’s that comfortable ‘deluxe double’ room - ensuite bathroom with shower that can easily accommodate BIG people. Enormous double bed (in reality, couple singles pushed together) with sufficient space for couple to sleep separately; 3 m wide (?) and normal length.
The outside swimming pool is on the fourth floor – clean, warm water and always few people there - great place to relax/read, swim lengths (25m). Bar available too.

And, what’s not to like?
The breakfast room was crowded at peak-hours; easily >150 people milling around seeking access to the different food tables. Sit close to those tables and there is a constant stream of people pushing past your table.
Coffee facilities created a choke point. There are two automatic coffee machines and, inevitably, there was one or both out-of-action at times … only you didn’t always know this as they steamed, dribbled, coughed and showed random red/green signals. This meant that there was always a queue and/or someone rushing over with apologies to fix things, etc. - resulting in frustrated diners and, it-should-be-said, an average cup of coffee – either too strong (none/insufficient milk), weak (no coffee), cup half-full or simply clouds of steam and nothing in the cup. There was hot filter coffee on hand – it was good too, but if you wanted hot milk (to add to your coffee) you still had to access those frustrating coffee machines. Separate hot milk hob?
Ours was room #576 on the fifth floor overlooking Beach Road. Quiet. The minor issues noted two years back – lights, air/con, etc. – did not crop up this time.
Summary? Hotel comes highly recommended.

Attended a friend’s daughter wedding dinner at Park Royal. There were 4 ballrooms at Level 1 at East Entrance. Carpark is just below entrance. Very convenient to park to get to ballrooms. The ballrooms look very new and recently renovated. Food and service was good.

I would like to start by appreciating the smile on staff face.

Especially Sue and Mia were excellent in their service. I met them on lounge at 6th floor and they were excellent in their communication and were very warmth in their gesture. Really appreciate them and wish them all the best I. Their future endeavours.

And Park royal , keep up the good work and I plan to visit you guys again in December.
