“The Singapore Sling -- just the one please!”
Reviewed 3 November 2010

This is a good clean modern hotel situated in a nice district, overlooking the Singapore river & within walking distance of the harbour. The bedrooms are a good size with a shower, tea/coffee facilities a "free safe" (how unusual is that), with his & hers slippers & dressing gowns hanging up in the wardrobe. A fair selection of tv programmes in English are available together with a fridge to keep all those essentials nice & cool.
My wife & I asked for a room at the front overlooking the river & it was not a problem at all. We found the humidity in Singapore a big problem so it was nice to be able to control the air conditioning from the bedroom. There is a small swimming pool at the back of the hotel with a hot tub. We found the staff to be very good & friendly & they actually carried our cases when showing us to our room on the 14th floor & showed us how everthing worked (how rare is that these days). This hotel is aprox 25 mins drive from the airport.
The food in the hotel is good if a little pricey, we had breakfast every morning at a cost of aprox £12.50 or 25.90 Singapore dollars each. There was a cheaper continental version but the full buffet was excellent & filling-- well recommended. So all in all a nice hotel for a long stay or a stop over for a few days in order to get over that long flight. Since our arrival back in the UK we have received a lovely letter from the Miramar management thanking us for staying there & looking forward to seeing us again (hey, how unusual is THAT).

Very good room service and staff were eager to assist. Room was quiet ( 10th floor) but a little dated and smelt musty, but adequate. Made good use od a spacious outdoor pool area. Handy to river walk which leads to cafes and restaurants.

A largely young staff was polite, helpful and efficient. The bellboy who showed me to my room was especially friendly and welcoming.

Located at a large urban road junction there is an 8 lane main road at the front. But there is a pedesrian footbridge (steps only) immediately in front of the hotel, and also street level pedestrian controlled traffic lights. My room was at the rear and quiet. It overlooked a terrace with a pool and beyond that high rise apartments. There was no feeling that you were being overlooked.

The room was clean and pleasant, non smoking (as most of the hotel seems to be) and it did not have the atmosphere of dampness that some contributors reported.

Next to the hotel there isa petrol station with a shop attached, useful for the water and soft drinks and snacks you will want.

Opposite the hotel there are well maintained footpaths along the river banks of the Singapore River extending for several kms to the financial centres and the old trading quays (with interesting bronze groups of 19th century traders) Lower down the river there are restaurants, barsand shopping centres as part of the redevelopment of the total waterfront. Where the footpaths come to roads there are underpasses under the road bridges (after heavy rain some can develop deep temporary flood pools if the drains cannot cope). I walked the river bank in daytime and after dark and as a retired person never felt threatened walking on my own. I concluded that the hotel is in a very safe area.

Buses stop immediately in front of the hotel and taxis are always driving through the front driveway of the hotel on the off chance they might be wanted.

This was my second stay at Mirimar. The first one about 3 years ago. Both times I was in Singapore for a family wedding. Mirimar is a lovely hotel close to Chinatown (we walked there a couple of times - approx 10min). My room was clean and comfortable - and I am pretty picky. It was just as nice three years ago. It is reasonably priced and has some great deals. The staff are friendly and helpful. It has a free shuttle bus to Orchard Road but taxis are not that expensive if you are travelling with others. I loved the shopping in Chinatown more so than Orchard Road so found the location ideal. I would definitely stay there again.

Excellent, Close to Chinatown, shopping, & points of interest.

Marina Bay Sands Hotel has a rooftop "Sky Park" which is on the 56th floor. Be warned there will be queues. We visited early evening and watched the sun set.

A cruise down the Singapore river to Marina Bay was well worth it.

I was here one night with tour group, after which I moved to Merchant Court, due to the more central location. This is a very nice 4 star place, very clean, good size rooms, etc. The only thing was that the beds were really hard. I thought maybe the box spring and mattress had been switched, but no. Also no affordable wifi, which seems to be the bad norm in Singapore.
You can walk to Chinatown and Clark Quay, but it is a bit of a walk.
I saw many people eating in the restaurant, looked good, although I went to Hawker Centers, which I would recommend.

First of all was the location I like. There are many things to do around the hotel. I stayed in the hotel for 3 days. I comment the hotel in just some short word: Nice hotel, helpful and friendly staff, room clean and spacious, location convenient, good value. Stay next time.
