went on a morning zoo tour with breakfast at the Ah Meng restaurant with the orang utans. A well organised tour, informative bus ride to the zoo, nice breakfast, plenty of time to see all the animals at the zoo and a drop off back to our hotel. The highlight for me was the polar bear. My son also got to had feed a giraffe - he loved that experience :-)

Used the public transport system to get there, easy to use no problems. Great setting, plenty of exhibits, although some were a little tired. Seeing the young orangutans playing was magical experience.

The only problem of going during the day is the heat. We didn't find it too had as it was overcast but then it started raining. Bring a poncho just in case. Loved the free-range Orungatuns and the Elephants of Asia show. There's really just so much to see at the Singapore Zoo.

We booked 'breakfast with the orangutans' online before we left home, which was well worth the extra money. We were at one of the tables in the front, so we were able to see the orangutans easily. The buffet breakfast was amazing, with plenty of variety and choices to satisfy all members of the family. We were then free to wander around the well-maintained animal enclosures.

Although I am usually against visiting zoos, especially in Asia, I decided to go to Singapore zoo as it is supposed to be the one of the top zoos in the world. For the most part the zoo is beautiful in well kept surroundings and the animals look happy in their enclosures, the small animals did at least. The larger animals were not provide with enough space. There was a polar bear in an air conditioned room who looked bored and lonely, a cheetah with only a small amount of space and other big cats with larger enclosures but still looked bored.
The monkeys and apes were much better looked after and provided with more stimulating enclosures.
The most disappointing part of the zoo was the elephant show. As soon as I read elephant show I cringed and didn't want to watch, but I was intrigued to see what they called an 'elephant show' and gave them the benefit of the doubt and went to watch. What the elephants could do was very impressive but it only leads to questions as to how do they train an elephant to do such unnatural things without using some kind of force... After watching enough we left the show and walked around the back of the show area only to see a fourth elephant who was not part of the show at that time but clearly knew the routine. It seemed very upset chained up, listening to the music and knowing what it should do but not being able to move. It was confused and distressed. This made my opinion of Singapore zoo crash land.
In conclusion I think that the zoo is perfect for smaller animals but it just cannot provide the right space for the larger animals, and it has a warped sense of care for the elephants and uses some of the smaller cuter animals just to make money in photo shoots.
