“Great position, great price, almost great hostel”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

First of all this hostel is in a brilliant place, within 1 minutes walk of Clarke Quay and also a whole street of restaurants across the road. The guys who run the cafe next door are real friendly and helpful as well. Now the hostel. it is quite small and very new so you will not get any assistance or group entertainment like you do in many hostels. The hostel is totally white and I mean white all over. it has no windows so is quite soulless. However the bed is spacious and really comfortable with a curtain to give you privacy. I was in a mixed dorm although I asked for a female dorm and this means that the showers and bathroom are mixed as well. They are clean and quite large but it is a challenge to get dressed without displaying your wares to others as there are no chairs to sit on, no shelves to put your clothes on. The beds are double high in what is really a corridor so there is little room beside the bed either. Again no chairs in the rooms. The lockers are quite challenging as they are a horizontal cupboard below the bottom bunk which means distorting yourself to both lock them and get the bag that has been pushed to the back. There is a handy lockable smaller locker by the bed, next to a handy shelf inside your pod where you can put your computer, phone, tablet etc. There is also your own electric socket. The price is really great for such a great position and it includes a basic breakfast and wi fi.
In summary, great price if you can forgo both colour and atmosphere and the hostel experience.

Room Tip: Great bed whatever you choose. You get more space and a couch if you choose the more expensive room...

stayed here on a quick trip to singapore back in March when I haven't move to singapore permanently. the location was good. it's very close to the Clarke Quay MRT station and within walking distance from Chinatown MRT station.

The room was ok. But I personally think that you could get way better hostel with that price.
Sorry, just trying to be honest.

Great location, efficient use of space, and they are constantly cleaning. In my 12 months of continuous travel through Asis and the Pacific, it's a good deal. The mattress is super comfortable with a fluffy white comforter and supportive pillow. ..all tucked into a private n quiet pod!

The breakfast is useless, but just walj 5 minutrs to the Raffles City Center and there are tons of choices.

A good hostel but a bit pricey.

Maybe it's just the location but I have stayed in hostels before at half the price.

Rooms were clean.

Shared bathroom cleaned once a day and water build up on the floor after each shower use.

Cleaning staff oddly sleep in the fire stairs and also keep their belongings there?
Wifi works well and cut out only once.

Staff refused to refund a night stat when I was advised I could stay with a family member, reception staff stated I needed to give 5 days notice to cancel however I had only booked and payed for the extra night the night before and I explained giving 5 days notice was impossible due to this.

All in all a good 2 nights sleep. with no major issues.

We stayed at Bunc Hostel for two nights. This was my first time staying in a hostel. We had a private room with shared bathroom. The room was cosy and clean but comfortable. There was no bin in the room which was a pain at times and only the overhead fluorescent light (no bedside lighting). The bathroom could have been maintained a lot better. The bin was frequently over flowing and when the toilet paper ran out it wasn't replaced. We had to find a roll on another floor hours after telling one of the staff members multiple times about the problem. There needs to be a clean bath mat in the bathroom replaced daily as there is always water all over the floor after people have showered. I was reluctant to dry the floor with my towel as the floor was dirty and I wanted to reuse the towel. The bathroom is awkwardly small. There are a few hooks on the wall but there isn't really anywhere to put your toiletry bag except on the floor or on the toilet which isn't very sanitary. The breakfast was ordinary. Toast with shared jars of margarine and jam. Guests were to wash their own dishes but appeared to be rinsing or scrubbing them 'clean' with a very dirty looking sponge. I would suggest regularly replacing the sponge and having individual packets of margarine and jams etc for food safety purposes. Perhaps offering juice and fruit as well would be a nice touch. I liked the idea that you leave a refundable deposit for towels and for international converter plugs etc. I think that was a nice touch. Overall the hotel is extremely expensive for a backpackers. The staff are friendly enough. There was a cleaner sleeping in the stairwell who appeared to also live in the stairwell and a maintenance guy just let himself into our room when we were in there without knocking which was very rude. I just think that the hostel need to fine tune a few basic things to make the stay better value for money. Overall the location is central and a quick walk to the MRT/Clarke Quay/Marina bay. There are a few seedy looking bars nearby with 'ladies of the night' hanging around but it's easily avoidable. Thanks for having us stay.

My partner and I booked online through hostelbookers to stay at the Little India location. A staff member emailed prior to our arrival that we would have to switch rooms upon arrival as they were renovating and offered a discount for the trouble. No problem. When we arrived at 3 am, we were told we had to switch properties! Not desirable, but Adrienne handled it well and we were soon settled at this property.

The location in the city is great. Walk to the waterfront, Chinatown, riverside with buses and a trainline very close.

The shared bathroom was perpetually wet with an accompanying mold, fungus? there too. The breakfast was basic and sufficient, staff were helpful when prompted. Matress was fine, not much activity in the common room, road noise is present - bring earplugs if you're sensitive.

Would stay here again.

Hi Sheri
Thank you for taking time to write us a review.
We are sorry again you had to shift due to the renovation at little india.
The bathroom you were using was a single occupant toilet and the floor
was usually damp due to condensation which usually happens after a very
hot shower.. we have since told our cleaners to pay more attention on that
toilet and step up on the frequency of its cleaning.
We have also repaired the window in the room you were in, we found that
there was a small gap when it was closed which might be the reason for the
noise escaping in.
Thank you again for your feedbacks , we treat every feedback seriously because
improvement is an endless process. We hope to see you again.
Luv e bunc team.

I stayed at this place for 4 nights. What i liked: great location, affordable pricing, comfortable bed with curtain. For our floor, there was 1 toilet and 2 showers and surprisingly i never had an issue of having to wait for it.

What i didn't like: i booked a towel online for $2 and when i got there they informed me it is $3 and the person has no reasonable explanation. Bait-n-switch is so 90s. Get your IT guy to update your pricing online.

Hi Tc,
Our sincere apologies for the mistake of our pricing of the towel fee. its was an oversight on our part.
We missed out on updating the towel fee online after our laundry vendor issued us a new pricelist. We have since rectified it. Thank you for your kind feedback.
Apologies for the oversight again..

Love e bunc team.
