“Modern hostel with good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2014

This hostel felt up to date with nice facilities, good Internet connection and friendly staff. I stayed on 4 bed dorm and it was clean and quite. Didn't like the fact that the female bathroom was on the same floor as the front desk. I was missing some social activities organized by the hostel, for example game nights or pub crawl. OK breakfast.

Only good thing was the location and very friendly and helpful staff. It was very noisy, tiny rooms, awful breakfast and very disgusting in the toilett and shower area especially in the weekend when the place was full. Will never go here again!

I stayed in a triple room with some friends and picked this hostel for the location and great price. It's located a few minutes walk from the MRT station and Marina Bay is within walking distance for some great views at night time. The malls are also within walking distance. The area surrounding the hotel has many English style bars and pub food, there is also a 7/11 and McDonalds near.

The room itself was fairly compact, however it was very clean and beds comfortable. The AC was very powerful. It may depend on luck as far as noise goes, we were often woken at 6am from our neighbours who seemed to be a family, the walls are fairly thin meaning that footsteps and screams were very audible.

The bathrooms were excellent, very modern and many free toilets/showers at all times. Upstairs there is a place to relax with free hot drinks and a decent view over the river.

Over all for the price it is a very decent hostel, clean bedrooms and modern styling makes it one of the better hostels that I have stayed in. Only downside was a little noise and having to walk through the lobby and upstairs to shower.

Room Tip: Female toilets/showers are on first floor, males upstairs

> Somebody took a dump on the common bathroom floor.

> I witnessed a mother and daughter team peeing on the bathroom floor because the toilets were not functioning for hours.

I guess that sums up my experience at the disgusting 5footway.inn Project Boat Quay. To be fair, this was my first hostel experience and I'm not at all familiar with sharing etiquette. However, I think it is human decency and common sense not to do your business on the floor - regardless if it's a common bathroom or not. Plus, disgusting excrements aside, the bathroom was filthy to begin with.

My partner and I were placed in the top bunk of a three-person co-ed sharing dorm. The metal hinges holding the steel ladder was broken and had a sharp protrusion - HIGHLY HAZARDOUS - which tore our jeans/ pants/ shorts/ skin while we were climbing down. Also, despite being entitled to two lockers on the bottom floor (each numbered bed comes with a numbered locker), we were told to to share one. As there was only one staff mending the counter, with a gazillion other guests, check in and check out took up most of my holiday in Singapore.

But of course there are some good points about staying at this hostel. The location is pretty decent and not too far from an MRT station. Plus, the cafe next door serves the best burgers I've ever tasted (not the cakes. The cakes are vile). Being so close to an MRT station, I could nip out whenever the place was driving me crazy. However, I believe you can definitely find better accomodation with the sort of money you're paying. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Room Tip: I would not stay here.

Last minute booking and found a twin room for £20, very good location next to the river, lots of bars and food places around and mrt is close. I was abit unsure on the shared bathroom but surprsingly everything is very clean. I would recommend this to anyone I was very pleased how nice everything was! Hope for the best and prepare for the worst :)

i had an excellent stay. at first it was rough going because i haven't stayed in hostel in quite a few years. i initially had expectations of a hotel. but once i remembered that it is a hostel, not a hotel, then i was able to appreciate the simple efficient service and facilities. it is clean and the staff was excellent. very friendly, helpful and professional. all of the staff were wonderful with the exception of two. firstly william was beyond exceptional. he was excellent. i was coming from malaysia and called first with many questions. william patiently answered all my questions and even guided me on how take public transportation to the hostel. the second exception is tingfu. he will help those who stay, but he is not friendly to all guests. he picks and chooses who he will be friendly with and "go the extra mile." he did not like me so even though he helped me, his attitude towards me and his treatment made it clear that he did not like me. i also saw him treat others the same.

but all in all, putting tingfu aside, it was a great stay at a decent, affordable clean hostel. i recommend it to anyone traveling to singapore on a budget.
p.s. willaim usually works the 2 to 11 pm shift.

I stayed for 2 nights as part of a stopover on a much longer journey. I was pretty jet lagged when I arrived but the hostel was easy to find, even in the dark. The location is a real bonus. My room was clean but I had the top bunk and the air con blew into my face all night long. Also, I had a room on the same floor as the bathroom and could hear the showers and lots of noise all night long. The price was pretty good fro Singapore. I wouldn't rush to stay here again but it served its purpose.

Room Tip: Make sure the room isn't on the same floor as reception and bathroom.
