....you will find the statue of Stamford Raffles situated at the spot where, it is said, he first came ashore and the rest, as they say, is history. It is quite a splendid statue and it is particularly interesting to see it against the backdrop of the skyscrapers of the financial district. It's situated near the Asian civilization museum and on the river walk so there's no need to make a special journey. Worth reading about Raffles so you can see his statue in some sort of context.
Worth a look!

The statue of Raffles stands, according the the plaque at its base, at the spot where the great man stepped ashore on the Island which he would transform into what is today the State of Singapore.

Naturally since then the focus of City life has moved on - what was once the epicenter of activity is now somewhat left behind, but the Statue is still an easy place to visit as one walks along the river from Clark Quay.

Its an odd kind of gloss white marble effect statue which shows Raffles in a typical Victorian era explorer / merchant pose. But its the place and the meaning that's important - read up on the History and sit a while gazing past the statue to the burgeoning business district behind and contemplate the march of time, how Cities and Nations develop and the role an Individual can have in such heady affairs. Well worth the effort to get here and contemplate.

Take a look if you're strolling down the river. Statue of a person who played a big role in the history of Singapore. So maybe worth to sit down there and read a bit of Singapore history from your guidebook.

This statue is along one of the nicer parts of the river so it is worth a quick gander if you are in the area anyway. It is somewhat of a landmark and commemorates an important figure from Singapore's colonial past. If you understand Raffles contribution, the statue will have a bit more meaning. Having said that, the sculpture is nicely done as far as those things go. It is not worth going out of your way just to say you've seen it but it is certainly worth a look if you are already in the vicinity.
