Owner description: Long Bar is now closed as part of our restoration programme and is slated for a grand reopening in the middle of 2018, along with the rest of the hotel. Home of the Singapore Sling, this two-story bar located on the second floor of Raffles Singapore is the place where travellers undergo one of the true rites of passage of travel. While there, sip on the world famous pink cocktail created in 1915 by bar captain Ngiam Tong Boon, and toss peanut shells onto the floor, the only place in Singapore where "littering" is permitted. The menu also offers a melange of cocktails and non-alcoholic concoctions, together with traditional pub favourites. The earthy interiors are inspired by Malayan plantation life in the 1920s. Oriental carpets are overlain on tiled floors and the furniture is traditional stained cane and rattan. A charming timber spiral staircase connects the two levels of the Long Bar with the seating above interspersed with teak lounge chairs.

“Singapore slings”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 November 2013

This review is only on a visit for drinks
We got a taxi to the hotel and were met by a man with an umberella as it was starting to rain just what you would expect visited the very expensive shops before ordering the mandory "Singapore slings" at the court yard garden the service is excellent just as you would expect we sat for ages absorbing the atmosphere then it started to thunder & lightning we sat under the very large parasols watching the rain run off them for a long time when we decided to leave the staff at the bar sheltered us from the rain. Was more than I expected yes the drinks are expensive so what the experience is what we came for and that is what we got no pressure no hurry just sit as long as you want. Would I do it again Yes. Only down side waiting for our taxi to our hotel as I had disabled people with me who struggled with the wait.

“Tourist Trap but had fun at Long Bar”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2013

Yes i have to agree that the Long Bar is a tourist trap but we were in great company and had great service. Had a few drinks and then enjoyed the hotel. Go for a drink if you really want to the Singapore Sings are good.

“Long bar at raffles-avoid”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2013

This review is solely about the long bar, not the rest of the hotel. We dropped in for a Singapore sling -what else. Lots of other tourists sat around with empty glasses. Elderly Japanese couple had nodded off at one table. We found a table, but no service. My dad ended up ordering at the bar. Drinks were then delivered about 15 minutes later. Looked to be very few waiters serving at all. Tradition appears to be to throw the shells from the provided nuts on the floor- makes for a crunchy underfoot. The SS was not the best I have had and at $87 for 2 SS and a beer, we would never return. I would not recommend visiting, just get your photos outside. Bloody awful experience actually.

“Long Bar in Raffles”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 October 2013

I concur with Stephen T. I expect Raffles Hotel is great, but the 'Long Bar' is a tourist trap rip-off! Service was terrible, the place was dirty (not just the peanut shells!) and the prices are sky-high. We had their (expensive) Singapore Slings - they were poured out of 2 litre plastic milk cartons. If you want an experience of the real Singapore - go to Little India.

“Complete Rip Off....Never Again...”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 October 2013

I really do not mind spending a few more dollars to enjoy a legendary drink in an historic Hotel. But S$27 for a small Singapore Sling is a bit much. It contains about S$2.85 in ingredients. What is the rest for? The ambiance? NOPE...the place is in need of repair. It's a legendary spot and should be kept up. NOT having chairs in need of repair, NOT having paper towels in the bathroom, NOT having spider webs on the chairs. I could go on and on. I am sad that they would gouge tourists as they do. Shame on you....
