Owner description: Long Bar is now closed as part of our restoration programme and is slated for a grand reopening in the middle of 2018, along with the rest of the hotel. Home of the Singapore Sling, this two-story bar located on the second floor of Raffles Singapore is the place where travellers undergo one of the true rites of passage of travel. While there, sip on the world famous pink cocktail created in 1915 by bar captain Ngiam Tong Boon, and toss peanut shells onto the floor, the only place in Singapore where "littering" is permitted. The menu also offers a melange of cocktails and non-alcoholic concoctions, together with traditional pub favourites. The earthy interiors are inspired by Malayan plantation life in the 1920s. Oriental carpets are overlain on tiled floors and the furniture is traditional stained cane and rattan. A charming timber spiral staircase connects the two levels of the Long Bar with the seating above interspersed with teak lounge chairs.

“A walk down memory lane...”
Reviewed 23 November 2013

normally people visit the bar for drinks, but this establishment was the reason why the "Singapore Sling" was founded.

The visual look of the place has been kept as original as possible,
& yes, the tradition of keeping peanut-shells on the floor still remains.

This place is nothing but NOSTALGIA & plenty of it!
Great place to unwind, except...i find the music from the live band too loud for my ears!

“A must on your S'pore Bucket list but not the best restaurant with regards to value”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

Yes, the Singapore Sling got invented at the Long Bar, so naturally any bar bum needs to pass by this place while passing through S'pore - at least just for the drink. But actually you can get better versions of this cocktail in S'pore for a lower price. Prices in the Long Bar are generally very high, even by S'pore Standards (3 Slings and a Coke will set you back around 90 SGD). Also had dinner there on another occasion - was ok but not great considering the price tag. Don't expect a very good table if you are not staying with the Raffels (which is actually a superb hotel - you need to book well in advance on their homepage!)

“Great History”
Reviewed 16 November 2013

This is a must visit place if you are in Singapore. The history from the days of the empire mean any Englishman must call in and try a real Singapore Sling! The food isn't great in the long bar, I ended up having three mini burgers and fries. Every table has a bowl of monkey nuts, free gratis, the shells end up all over the floor.

“Average, just go for sling”
Reviewed 14 November 2013

I've been there for this Sling history, and liked it, but the steak is not that amazing as some said. It is just good steak.
Obviously, Sling is great.

“Definitely worth a visit”
Reviewed 13 November 2013 via mobile

The Long Bar at Raffles is definitely worth a visit whilst in Singapore. It is a rewind in time and you can imagine what it was like in colonial times. The fans on the ceilings are from the 1920's in appearance, I have not seen decorations like it on my travels. You get monkey nuts on the bar and once you are done with the shells you throw them on the floor, it is weird but you do as the locals do.

Alcohol in Singapore is not cheap but I would recommend having a Singapore Sling, I have never had one before but it was very nice. Service is not fast at the bar but it is chilled out atmosphere.

It is a tourist place and not where the locals visit but I really enjoyed it.
