“Overpriced,”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2014

We stayed in The Pod for a night.
Well, it is very modern and beautifully done (especially the bathrooms and breakfast-area) but our room were our capsule has been was really narrow, not to compare with the pictures on the website.
The air con was set to a lower level in the night. The thing is: That is the time when everyone (I´m not completely sure, but there were a minimum of 9 people but I think it is up to 12?!) is in the room and when you need the air. I woke up in the middle of the night and had the feeling that there was just no air left. Of course there are these "curtains" and at least they prevent an complete exchange of the air. During the day you felt the air con in the capsule, that would have been great at night. They have really nice - for asian standard - thick blankets, so you wouldn´t feel cold.
Going green is totally unknown. For breakfast you have plastic plates, plastic forks and spoons, plastic bowls and plastic cups for juice. Only for coffee you can have a "real" cup or you choose the paper cup and if you are lucky and find a knife - they´re real one´s too. Very disappointing.
The choices for breakfast are good.
The bathrooms were not very clean.
Staff is not really nice.

While Singapore is a very expensive city: It was still an overpriced once in a lifetime experience. Next time I would just choose a normal hostel with a normal dorm. Cheaper and more comfortable.

I was a little apprehensive about the whole "capsule hotel" concept, particularly since I decided on a recent trip that beyond a shadow of a doubt I am too old for hostels and this feels unpleasantly close to that, but affordable hotels in Singapore are tough to come by so I went for it.

I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. The staff were INCREDIBLY friendly and helpful. The included breakfast won't win any culinary awards but was totally satisfactory (various breads/ tarts, a few Asian choices like dumplings, lots of cereal, sausage and baked beans??) and I was pretty happy about the nespresso machine.

The "capsule" itself was much better than I'd anticipated. I got a "front entry" one which I feared would be claustrophobic but was actually quite cozy. There's an outlet and a light switch by your head, a (weirdly translucent) curtain, a pull-down shelf, and the bed itself was pretty comfortable. Towel included with the linens, replaced each day.

There's a no shoes policy in the rooms and bathroom area- my one complaint is that the staff should enforce this more strongly. I saw it being followed about 95% of the time, and it is pretty damn anger-inducing to walk into a room, barefoot, and see someone's shoes by the bed, dirtying it up for everyone. If you are going to stay there, for god's sake be respectful of others and just follow the rules - I promise you, you aren't the only one who doesn't love taking shoes off in shared places but overall it makes the place feel way cleaner than most hotels.

Bathrooms are cleaned pretty frequently and I never had to wait for a toilet or shower. Will say that if you go right at the end of the morning shower rush before they've had a chance to clean, it does have a bit of a hostel feel.

There are lockers for your stuff - they don't feel incredibly sturdy but also it's Singapore, do people even steal? I left all my belongings and had no problems. Note that large backpacks and checked suitcases won't fit, but in my room of ~10 beds (requires key for entry) there was a space to put them.

One thing is - BRING EARPLUGS. holy crap my second night there was a guy who snored so loudly I heard him even through earplugs and the pillow over my head, but without the earplugs I might have cried.

Overall, if you would like to go to Singapore and not empty your entire wallet but you do want one step above a hostel, this is a great choice.

Similar to many other reviews here, I think The Pod is a nice cross between a hotel and a hostel, if that makes sense. The location is great, and the amenities are very modern, new and well managed. The staff are also very friendly and helpful, and the blinds you get for each pod is great for some privacy, even if you're in a room with 10 other people. Just an anecdote of how helpful they were: it was the fasting month and I had to have breakfast before its usual hours (7 am), so the staff said I could come down earlier and have it at 5 am instead. That was a really nice and commended gesture.

Yes it is a bit pricey compared to other hostels, but I'd stay there again because of the nice balance between affordability and a nicer, slightly more "upscale" look, feel and service. And yes, the breakfast is nice too (croissants, quiches, dim sum, cereal, baked beans, toast, etc).

It was the best hotel that i've ever stayed when i'm in Singapore, the location, the cleanliness and the breakfast love it so much specially for the dimsum. The facilities such as laundry, an iron, a hair dryer. The service such as they change the towel everyday, and the receiptionist was so nice and helpfull. Will be back stay there for the next trip.

Modern hotel. Quiet. Modern and clean bathrooms and showers. Reasonable breakfast. Good location next to the Arab quarter with lots of restaurants and bars around. About a 10 minutes walk from the MRT train station Bugis away on the green east west train line which connects to Changi airport. Would stay in this hotel again.

Check-in was such a breeze ; was brought to my bunk within 5 mins of reaching the hotel (a personal record!). I was really impressed with the cleanliness of the washrooms and the common use areas. The location is great as it is a stone's throw away from various eateries and pubs. Plus it's walking distance to Bugis MRT and city hall. The staff are very nice and friendly too. Will definitely return for my text trip to Singapore :)

I stayed for 4 nights at the hotels. First impression was really good, the hostel rooms are very comfortable. I love the blinds to add some privacy when i stay. The bathroom was really clean and not wet. It's a quite and nice place to stay. I will definitely choose the pod again to stay in Singapore
