“Lovely place, excellent service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2014 via mobile

I stayed in this hotel in mid March and I have to say that this place is quite a hidden gem. When I learnt of its location, I was quite sceptical but it turned out to be a very lovely hotel. The old touch in the modernity gives the place a very homey feel to it. Of course, the wooden floors creak when u put some weight to it but other than that, I don't have any complaint.
There is a mosque nearby but since I'm a Malaysian, we're used to the morning prayers so that didn't pose much problem.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Ben for his excellent advise and help throughout my entire stay. Without him, I would probably be at lost at what is what and where is where. And Mr. Murli as well. I would definitely come back to stay.

We stayed one night here. The service was pretty good, and the room was pretty nice (although the bathroom is small with a strange layout) but the noise of a nearby club went until 4am. We both had very little sleep here. The hotel should provide earplugs, that would have made our stay much better.

Room Tip: Maybe stay on the first floor? Second floor was very loud.

Very well situated in a nice 'authentic' part of Little India. Very clean place and the best thing was the very nice and 'personal' service. The rooms are cosy and kept extremely clean. A short walk from Bugis metro.

We felt very welcome upon check in at this hotel which is ideally situated in Little India and a relatively short walk to the subway. We stayed on the bottom floor by the breakfast area but had to move one night to the 2nd floor for an accidental electrical issue. We found the rooms to be clean and well maintained...and for the price and location I couldn't complain about size. Huge caution as per other reviews...the clubs are licenced until 2:45 and the music is really loud especially on the second floor...our bottom floor room was a little quieter as I believe the room is below ground a bit. After being told that nobody has ever complained about the noise it was satisfying to read other reviews raising concerns....I was told to review TA . That being said, if you don't mind noise it's a good spot to stay as you may get a good noise free room. You will enjoy Alvin at the front desk..really enjoys his job.

Good location in the heart of Singapore's Little India. Breakfast included. Room was ok and clean. I would call it anyway more hostel than hotel. The bathroom was not really bathroom. Shower is bidee. In the night time it was really noisy. Usually I don't have problems sleeping in the city centers. This time music and other noises disturbed a lot. You need ear plugs. Bed was good. Room doesn't have window.

Absolutely charmed by the place. It is located slightly off the main road, but is nestled between Little India MRT and Queen Street Bus Station. It is well placed, with Sim Lim Square across the road, Bugis St slightly around the corner, and Little India just around the corner. It is at the top part of Perak Road, just behind the beautiful Abdul Gafoor Mosque. It is flanked by the clinical Hotel 81s of Dickson and Rochor.
I stayed here in March, as part of an extended business trip, to fit in gastronomical and shopping pursuits. Despite Singapore being very expensive, I still find pockets of it still affordable especially in areas around Little India, Bugis etc. We paid RM285 per night for 2 with breakfast, on a prepaid Value Deal with Booking.com. The following are my nominal Pros and Cons-
Pros:
- Close by to all the sights, sounds and (good but heady) smells of Little India
- We arrived at 12noon, and were greeted by the affable receptionist, who gave us ice cold drinks and arranged to store our bags until the 2pm check in time. When we came back, we found that the bags had been sent up three flights of steps, to our room. What a lovely, thoughtful touch, given there were no lifts. He was very helpful too, with requests for two more pillows.
- Housed in a well preserved, standalone 3 storey building, which promises windows for all rooms, except for inner room, which still had a sky light.
- Lovely wooden floors, which were not as noisy as expected, which aided with the overall vintage, heritage feel
- Is a 10 minute jaunt through the winding back roads to Mustafa, 24hour shoppers haven for some of the best prices in Singapore for local and imported goods.
- Surroundings were safe despite our 12 midnight visit to Mustafa
- Lots of Indian restaurants nearby, as is convenience stores etc, so no issue with food at all
- Rooms were compact, but has all amenities expected, ie LCD TV, fridge, hairdryer, really clean toilet etc. Good reception of cable TV channels
- Comfy beds, slept very well
- There were little corners for places to sit and read outside of the rooms, which was great for a little retreat/quick escape
- All you can eat simple breakfast of canned fruits, bananas, toast, eggs and cereal with hot drinks
- Staff were generally nice and helpful
- Strong wifi in rooms and hotel areas
Cons
- Our room was facing the back of a noisy pub, which meant sounds up until 2.30 am, which was not good. Recommend double glazing for these rooms on all floors, to preserve peace and quiet.
- The twin bed was jammed up against the window which meant it was difficult to open the windows for fresh air.
- The layout of the room was a bit old fashioned and tired even, with too much wardrobe space taking up the side of the room next to the door.
-The outer, main parts of the place were much better designed, and more welcoming than the room itself. Rooms could use with some better pictures, updated vintage furniture etc
- The breakfast was pretty standard, however didn't gel with the feel of a hotel but rather felt as if we were in someone's haphazard kitchen. For eg, could have better jams, cereal, more variety of bread, fruit etc. There was a surly woman serving, who could change her attitude.
However, I did enjoy my stay, as it was well kept and clean, and served its purpose for a quick stopover. I would definitely stay here again, with the same price and would request for a room on the other side of the building.

Room Tip: Choose the side facing Rochor Road for peace and quiet

Boutique Hotel on the fringes of Little India and Bugis on a quite side road.

Rooms are clean but smallish, perfectly adequate if you are not going to spend to much time there, shower/toilet area however is tiny. Close by to MRT, ten minute walk and bus stations.

Plenty of small eateries close by, skip the free breakfast as there is very limited choice.
