As my primary accommodation choice for Singapore no longer has dormitory-style rooms, and the fall-back option was undergoing a renovation, I turned to the guidebooks for advice. The InnCrowd got good reviews, so I tried them out. At SGD20 a night, I was skeptical and, in turn, pleasantly surprised. The ten-bed mixed dorms do not have that often claustrophobic feel to them.
The hostel itself is well maintained and clean. My only gripes are that the aircon in the dorm rooms is switched off between 1100 and 1900, and there are no power points in the dorms- so you're competing with the rest of the hostel to charge up your devices in the common room.
Staff are polite, accommodating and knowledgeable. The free breakfast is a good selling point, even if it is just boiled eggs, toast and jam, tea and coffee. Free food is free food!
Dunlop Street is convenient as a location. Bugis and Little India MRT stations are close, as is the Rochor bus terminus for those coming in from Malaysia. The cornucopia of Indian cuisines is right on your doorstep, and the Prince of Wales pub is in the same street.
