Stayed over for a night in the Premium Room during Valentine's Day. Absolutely loved the decor and feel of the hotel. This is the hotel you will want to stay in for a romantic night with your partner. Polite staff at the counter makes checking in a breeze.

Couple of bad points though. Mini fridge wasn't working and it took 2 trips by the technician to rectify the problem. That was a problem I was willing to overlook.

What I couldn't turn a blind eye to was that the housekeeper opened the door to our room without even knocking to check if anyone was inside first. What if we just showered and the housekeeper just walked in like that? That's what brought my ratings down.

Didn't bother making a complain though but I thought there people here should know about it. Other than that, we had a very pleasant stay at the hotel. Beds were comfortable and shower amenities were excellent.

Elegance and romance pore out of everything at The Scarlet. It's location on the edge of Chinatown makes it close to everything but then when you get inside the lobby it's like stepping into another world. We got in well past midnight but we sent an email before our arrival letting the hotel know of the late check in. They were waiting and ready for us when we got there. Our room was on the second floor just past the outdoor spa area. While on the smaller side for Western standards on hotel rooms, the size and amenities for Singapore hotel rooms was outstanding! The bed was very comfortable - 4 huge pillows - and a wonderful duvet cover. Bathroom had walk-in shower with adjustable shower head from hand hold to wall hold and plenty of hot water! (And cold water for rinsing off after being outside for a few hours) Newspapers every morning in the delivery basket on our door and turn down service at night.
To top it all off, the balcony off of our room was such an added bonus, we were at times debating whether or not we'd rather just spend some time in the room! We were treated like family - like royalty - it was superb.

If you come to Singapore and are expecting peace and quiet and no noise at night, you're delusional. This is a city whose energy never ceases so of course there are noises to accompany that. Yes there were city noises (cars, occasional trucks, maybe a drunk tourist stumbling down the street singing Gangnam style at the top of his lungs) but those are not something over which the hotel has any control. And believe me; they were more sensitive to it all than we were. There was a group of loud vacationers who were enjoying the roof top spa area late into the night and the hotel was right on it the minute they started to get too loud.

Do yourself a favor – stay at the Scarlet, visit the rooftop bar and restaurant, expect amazing. Don’t forget to indulge in a Singapore Sling!

Word to the wise though: Money exchangers on that side of town are few and far between so go into Chinatown (around MRT station) to get what you need. Or find a Western Union. There’s a great food court area out the front door of the hotel and about two blocks over and is great for cheap quick meals. (Walk out of the lobby, turn left to the road –Ann Siang Road – at the top of the street, turn right and follow it down. Maxwell food center is on the right hand side.)

Room Tip: Room 207 - it's on the corner and is near the roof spa. Also a second set of bathrooms.

Just got back from a 4 nights stay in this hotel. What a beautiful hotel! The decor and furnishings really are special and there is a real sense of luxury. The staff - smart as a button and polite as you can get - were excellent and only too willing to help at all times. As I had read on Tripadvisor, our room was small but not prohibitively so. There was sufficient space for the twin beds and space to move around plus a bathroom so there was no issue there. There was no window with a view in the room. As a refurbished building, our room had rafters which added to the quirkiness of the room and a high window we could not see out of but which allowed plentiful light. The carpet was a little tired but clean as was the rest of the room very clean, but a nice surprise was the mini-bar prices. $9 for a Tiger beer? No more expensive than my home city. The location of the hotel on the edge of Chinatown is ideal for Asian markets/bakeries/food halls but without being immersed in the tired and 'fragrant' areas. Ultimately, I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Can't help on this one - our room was a Twin Deluxe and was fine.

The design of the hotel is very nice and particular, the looby very luxury with and very well maintained. I was a bit disappointed about the room: I got an executive room but it's very small (almost no space to put my luggage on the floor). I was supposed to get an upgrade as i am a honoured memeber of Small luxury hotel but they didn't give me although there was availability and the guy at the desk was not helpful at all for that. Everything else is great: bed very confortable and luxury as well as the bathroom. A very nice restaurant with great breakfast also and a super nice bar on the roof. Location is good

Dear Melzago
Thank you for your unbiased review. We have noted on your feedback and will fine tune our procedures to improve the upgrading matter. However, we will always do our best to extend the upgrading of room to members of Small Luxury Hotels when availability allows. As a conserved building, most of our rooms are of similar sizes, except the premium rooms and the suites to be more spacious. Rooms on the first level with skylight are also more roomy. Nonetheless, we hoped that you've enjoyed the rest of our facilities. We will continue to strive and excel to meet your expectations. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly for your future visits with us and i'll be happy to handle them personally. We sincerely look forward to welcoming you back at The Scarlet!

The Staff here were some of the best I have ever encountered in a non 5 star hotel. friendly, polite, knowledgeable.

The Hotel is billed as a boutique hotel and certainly has most of what you would expect. But, be warned, if you needs or want a window, you are likely not to get one unless you book a premium room. Most of the good value rooms do not have windows.

Breakfast was offered at SGD 30, which for us was a bit steep, so we chose to eat in one of the many cheap places outside the hotel.

The roof bar is superb for sundowners and snacks, before heading off to Dinner.

I would recommend this hotel for a night or 2 with little hesitation.

Room Tip: take note of window comment,

Spent a couple of nights at The Scarlet recently. It was my first stay there. I have been to Singapore many times and had previously walked by this place quite a few times, and must admit that this hotel always intrigued me.
First of all, you must be aware that a lot of their Deluxe (non Standard) rooms do not have windows. None of their Standard (cheaper) rooms have windows, so no risk of misundertanding here. But if you book one of their Deluxe rooms thinking your room will automatically have a window, you're likely in for a bad surprise. That is what happened to me.
Upon checking in, the amazingly kind lady at the front desk told me that since I had not requested a room with a window, they would not be able to accommodate me. I insisted, and they did accommodate me. Frankly, requesting a room with a window would not automatically have guaranteed anything, as anyone who's ever requested ANYTHING when booking a hotel room will know.
That being said, other than the fact that the rooms are really tiny, I must say that the kindness and professionalism of their staff, the cleanliness of the place and the sheer beauty and character of this boutique hotel are very hard to resist! Amazing water pressure, boring toiletries (Flair???), fast and reliable Internet connection (free wifi in rooms - some people had complained of unreliable Internet, but my connection was flawless the whole time) and hard beds, that about sums up the room for me.
I did not try their restaurants or bars, but hear they're solid.
In a nutshell, if they sorted out the Deluxe rooms window dilemma, and if their rooms had more comfortable beds and offered upscale toiletries with novel and interesting fragrances (as should be the case in any upscale boutique hotel), I'd give this place five stars.

Thank you for taking time yo give us your many observations and valuable feedback. Flair is our inhouse product that we have created to compliment The Scarlet when we first started. However, we always do our best to accede to requests made during reservation and also to advise guests if their requests cannot be met to avoid disappointment upon arrival. After living in Singapore for 3 years, I needed a hotel for my last 4 nights and chose the Scarlet Hotel. It did NOT disappoint. The staff were so helpful and friendly, and the hotel decor was unique and charming. It is an ideal location to explore the island. Just be warned - the standard rooms are really tiny, but very well appointed.
