I always research extensively before I book accommodation anywhere and this was no different. I had read rave reviews of the Scarlet and went without the Singapore stopover holiday option in order to book this accommodation. Overall I wasn't disappointed. I often get very frosty receptions from the locals in Singapore as they think I'm local but the staff were very friendly. Before I knew it Jenny was at the cab, opening the door and helping me with my luggage. I was even offered a cold towel to wipe my face with - a much needed luxury with the heat of Singapore. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a deluxe room so I had to upgrade to a premium room when I booked this accommodation. The room was spacious and decked out in the same eclectic furnishings as the rest of the hotel. I was disappointed that I didn't get a balcony but that was partly my fault I guess for not requesting it. The biggest drawback was the lack of windows you could look out of. There was a window high on one wall that allowed light in and above the bed was a very high ceiling with a skylight I think that also let some light in. No sleeping in this room - as soon as the sun rises the room becomes lighter. Thankfully I don't normally sleep in! The room comes with a safe, mini fridge with complimentary soft drink/juice/water/sparkling water which was also a pleasant surprise. The bathroom was magnificent, complete with the usual shower gel/shampoo/conditioner/body lotion. It also included some bath salts that you could use if you wanted to take advantage of the bathtub. At night you can hear some noise but it was quite muted and didn't bother me at all. The location of this hotel is great. It's right beside Maxwell Hawker Centre and you can always pop over for a cheap and delicious meal. It's also very near China Town where you can also get delicious food and the usual tourist paraphernalia. It's a very short walk to the MRT station and other assorted shopping experiences from shopping centres to little markets. I was a little disappointed that my room's mini fridge wasn't restocked with the water I had used up on the day before while exploring in Singapore and although it had been cleaned, was not to the standard that I had experienced on previous days. I'm not a messy person but the other times my room had been cleaned, even my plastic bags had been folded nicely, a strap used for my luggage had also been folded which had impressed me to no end!! I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for quality accommodation that is conveniently located with helpful and very friendly staff.
