“A Great Getwaway From jakarta”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 December 2008

My husband and I stayed in this hotel as a treat from our family after conducting research for four months in Sumatra. We arrived from Jakarta late at night, completely bedraggled and with tons of equipment. The staff did not bat an eye at our appearance and showed us to the most delightful room and we immediately relaxed into the the luxury of the Scarlet. Our family had splurged on an executive room for us and it was well worth it. The balcony was so peaceful that I wished we had hours to spend there. The room was small, but elegant and very comfortable. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the shower was one of the best I have experienced in a hotel. The staff was very accommodating and when we requested a 4:30 wake up call to catch our plane, we were greeted with hot tea at our door. In all, it was a very wonderful experience for us and we would recommend this hotel to anyone that wants to splurge in Singapore!

From the website, we were amazed... and looking forward to a stay with a "difference"... and that's what The Scarlet offers...and more!
The service is very personalized and smooth... loved the serving of welcome drink in the room - which is indeed on the small size - however it was done with such flair + elegance...

As compact as the room is, it does have all that you could wish for... all amenities + compendium + info is very well taken care.. and the feeling throughout the resort, wants you to explore more... it's a teaser!

Unfortunately we only stayed for 1 night... but certainly well worth it - despite the small rooms, and we were in an Executive Room with balcony (not necessary to book and pay extra for the balcony...as you won't use it!) and the location + shops around are great as well!

Would love to come back!

  • Liked — The sexy feel to it...
  • Disliked — Small rooms... but it's okay for the great location in S'pore!

Loved it! Enjoyed every minute of our stay there...

- Everything is sensual!!
- Full of original details to make your stay veeery sexy
- Very hip and trendy (beautiful bar)
- Rather small rooms
- If you decide to go to the cheaper rooms you better know in advance that they dont have windows
- The coolest shops right outside the hotel
- Great location in Chinatown, close to the subway and taxis
- Staff very friendly and willing to make your stay comfy

  • Liked — Full of details and the concept of it
  • Disliked — the room with no window....but it doesnt bother you at all

A great hotel on the edge of China Town, a great location as most of the main city areas are in walking distance.

The room was excellent, on the small side but we found it very comfortable. The bed was the best in the whole of Asia!! Excellent shower as well as quality toiletries....the free internet connection is also reliable and fast.

The hotel staff were all pleasant and happy to help, the decor was as per the web site; fun, quirky but with class...a very boutique hotel

The only thing we found was the prices of food and drinks, but this was not exclusive to the Scarlet, it was the whole of Singapore!!

All in all a great choice...we will be back!!

  • Liked — the BED!!!
  • Disliked — The price of a glass of wine!!

This was the first stop on our honeymoon adventure and we came here with open minds not knowing what to expect.

I had e mailed in advance for a room with a window and received one, it even had a small balcony though it overlooked nothing.

The attention to detail was excellent and we were greeted by chocolate dipped strawberries and other fresh fruits though the room was far from spacious.

There is a lovely rooftop bar though I had severe heart palpatations when I discovered the most reasonable bottle of wine was approximately £40 sterling.

The breakfast was good with a nice choice of pastries/fruit and a cooked selection, we didn't eat any other meals here though looking at the menu's these were definitely on the expensive side as well.

Elsewhere the gem of singapore was the one feature that doesn't appear in the tour guides. Get to the McRitchie nature reserve, stick your walking shoes on and experience the treetop walkway. There are tons of wild monkeys, monitor lizards and if lucky a few snakes. Virtually no Singaporeans venture here though, they are far more interested in Shopping Malls.

Foodwise you generally get good cheap food from the market though you can't always be sure what you're eating and some of the plastic tables appear rarely cleaned.

Unfortunately my wife doesn't like beer which is the only reasonable priced alocohol out here, if you go to Clark Quay or the other trendy spots you will get stung on price, it's expensive. Shop around though and go a little further afield and you'll get a much better deal.

You can have a late night beer at any of the little Chinese Cafe's but they don't do anything for the lady so you end up having to go to the more expensive places so she can have a white wine or similar.

Cabs are fairly reasonable so use these to get around and get on the boat trip to give an indication of the Town geography.

Just returned from an amazing stay at The Scarlet and were very impressed indeed. My wife and I stayed for three nights before moving on to Bali. We paid extra for the 'Swank' suite and this was worth every penny.

We had a huge comfy bed with clean white linen and a selection of pillows. The bathroom had a jacuzzi bath, walk in shower and ample light and space. The bedroom was a little small with a large wardrobe and small lounge area. We also had a large balcony and seating area.

We were aware of previous comments about how small the rooms were, but this really is part of the character of such a small boutique hotel.

The staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for us. They were ever so polite and very knowledgable indeed. The hotel is impeccably clean as is the whole of Singapore.

The food in the restaurant is excellent but very expensive. The breakfasts were to die for. I would recommend paying for B&B rather than find out the cost on arrival.

In view of the cost, the hotel is ideally situated next to China Town and a short walk round the back of the hotel will take you to a huge undercover food area. Meals here are out of this world and much much cheaper than in the hotel.

Other than the cost of food, I would recommend this hotel far more than any of the others in Singapore. Other than Raffles, but if you can afford to stay there then so be it!

  • Liked — The unique ambience
  • Disliked — The cost of the restaurant

Am a Singaporean.Stayed one night at The Scarlet with 2 other couples for the weekend get-away.We were impressed with the welcoming clean rooms. We booked the Deluxe but the staff upgraded us to Premium and Executive. The rooms, indeed stunning!Staff were smart and jovial.Very nice lobby landing floor plan and toilets were sparkling clean. Other than the pool which was a bit small,I would really love to spend more nights here! Two thumbs up!
