Stayed in this hotel for 5 nights and it was fabulous! Specifically requested for a room on a higher floor with a window (most rooms lie below ground) and got a decent sized room on the 3rd floor - only problem with this was the long walk to the lift, but the nice room was worth it. Free broadband internet connection to all rooms was a bonus and the amenities provided (TV, DVD player, bathroom supplies) made it feel like a 4-star hotel, not to mention the stylish comtemporary interior design. Very conveniently located downtown, near Maxwell food market where great local favourites can be found, and Ann Siang Hill and Chinatown are great places for tourists to take a wander around. All in all a great stay and highly recommended for people who enjoy boutique hotels.

To start with the positive, the hotel looks great from lobby to rooftop restaurant. However, it looks better than it really is.

Checking in was a bit of a hassle with check-in time moved forward several times. The rooms are indeed quite small, and the only natural light in the room came through a very small window high up. The bathroom was simply not very good. Very small shower head, low water pressure, impossible to keep the water temperature stable. The sink was clogged. These are all things (cleaning) staff should have picked up on already.

The doorman, although looking the part and very friendly (as most of the staff were), unfortunately didn't offer much help beyond hailing a cab and loading the luggage.

The rooftop restaurant has a great view of surrounding Chinatown, but the food was not very good. The large seafood platter was almost entirely frozen and the seafood itself rather poor in quality. With all the great food available in Singapore I wouldn't visit again. Staff seemed inexperienced.

Overall one leaves with a feeling of the Scarlet being an ambitious hotel, but nowhere near reaching the level of some of its similarly priced competitors.

This could be a good hotel if management would train the hotel staff better in locating problems and fixing them quickly.

Service was very good but were shocked at the size of the room. Rooms in Singapore are not always as small as what we had and that was considered the 'bigger' deluxe room! What made the size worse was that the room was on ground floor and due to privacy reasons and people walking by the window, the room didn't have a window except for two small top panels which gave a little bit of sunlight - this increased our claustrophobic feeling. Wouldn't have minded if I was in Paris or New York as this is expected in Paris/New York, but not normal in Singapore. Beautifully appointed and renovated rooms and the bathroom was amazing! Location is Ok, as we could walk for about 8 min. to nearest station.

Travelling from Australia to Asia or to Europe, Singapore is often a stopover point. Previously we have always ended up at a massive hotel, including some of the ones listed in the top rankings of trip advisor. The pricing of these is a bit silly if staying for less than 24 hours.
This time we were looking for something a bit boutique.
The Scarlet was perfect for an overnight stop and excellent value. The staff were very acommodating. The food markets across the road are also good to grab a late night snack amongst the locals.
The rooms are TINY. However the fittings and finishes are great and the ambiance is pretty cool considering the rest of Singapore (from what we have seen) is a little teflon coated.
The only down side was the water pressure in the shower, the simple breakfast and the only window in the room was a skylight.
Notwithstanding we would DEFINITELY stay here again for a one night stop.

OK, The Scarlet is maybe not so perfect but so charming i tend to forget the wrong details. We stayed there in March 2006 and we have been very surprised about the difference of this hotel. There is no comparaison in the world with this ultra sophisticated decoration. We have stayed in the Splendour Suite and it was large and comfortable with an adorable terrace perfectly romantic for an evening cocktail. Bathroom is of the best quality with a lot of amenities and there is a very warm atmosphere. About the staff, all of them are trendy, helpful and quite smily and i don't have any complain about them because they really want to make the customer happy of the stay.
Breeze and Bold are two nice places for a cool drink with hype people and again this unique atmosphere but the breakfast at the restaurant is simply terrible with very bad food quality and a service not really professionnal. However, once again, congratulations for the decoration.
About the other problems of The scarlet, just be careful not to make a reservation for a room without window because there are several rooms like that and not only in the lowest category... Take some ear plugs because the soundproofing is not the best. If not, the other things are really satisfacting and there is a real charm absolutely exquisite and i'll return there often because i love difference.

Booked a night at one of the premier rooms for my girlfriend's birthday. Really Chic. Was a tad disappointed at first though coz the premier room that i saw earlier at the ground floor was quite a fair bit bigger than the one that i got. (I was later told that all the rooms are different) Nevertheless, it still looked very nice and had a balcony (which the bigger room did not, though there was'nt much of a view)

A few gripes which concurred to some of the other reviews i read though. First of all, the aircon was really rather noisy. Also the soundproofing isn't all that great, so you can generally hear some sounds from the floor above.

Despite that, i still think the scarlet's worth staying. The service was great and the decor excellent, from the corridors to the reception desks to the restaurant. There's even a nice rooftop bar which offers pretty nice views. We enjoyed ourselves there.

Lovely hotel. Rooms small but not problematic. We booked an executive room which wasn't that much more expensive but seems to have been worth it, room faced to rear with tiny balcony, very quiet. Service was really good: prompt and friendly. Breakfast was good - lots of choice, if you want somethiing different just ask. Having stayed in the Swissotel Stamford (great views) on a previous visit I wanted a change. I found this location better and atmosphere much less impersonal. Roof top bar is pricey but you get a lovely breeze up there! Maxwell food court opposite has great cheap food, as do all the other food courts. Only problem we had was that taxi drivers seemed to find it hard to find so we stopped using the hotel name and got dropped off on the main road.
