“Great location”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

This was our first time in Singapore and although everybody warned us that the city is all about shoppping malls the New Majestic proved the opposite. It's location is so perfect. In the middle of China town yet so quiet. The outdoor bath tub was the icing on the cake. There are a lot of funky rstaurants and bars just around the corner. The receptionist were very friendly. Just skip breakfast that was the only disappointing thing but there are enough nice breakfast places around the hotel.

Room Tip: loved the room with the outdoor bathtub.

I selected the New Majestic from a hotel booking website without doing further research other than checking the location, which is great. A minute from Outram Park MRT and thence to the airport or other shopping and entertainment areas Plenty of restaurants and bars within easy walking distance - everything from food stalls to fancy eateries. I am not sure why a previous writer found it "really hard" to find food. This is Singapore, there's food everywhere! Even a McDonald's within a short walk if that's your taste.

I wasn't prepared for the quirky room designs. I was given a room with an almost vertical ladder to the bed, which I didn't fancy navigating should I have a call of nature in the night. The staff helpfully gave me what they said was the only other available room, the "Pussy Parlour" complete with neon sign of which there are pictures in other reviews. All I can say is that this room was a triumph of design over practicality. So, as the hotel management says frequently here, be sure to check out the rooms before you book - difficult if you book using an online service and not direct with the hotel.

The excellent toiletries and complimentary Nespresso coffee, water and soft drinks in the rooms were a nice touch, and the hot breakfast was freshly prepared rather than a buffet, which was also appreciated. One very minor gripe which is not unique to this hotel, can we have some "adult" cereals on the breakfast bar and not just the sugary stuff! WiFi was included and allowed up to 3 devices online, which is useful and not always the case in many hotels.

Personally I would not stay here again, but if you are looking for something different from the normal standard hotel rooms in a great location then the New Majestic is definitely for you.

Room Tip: Do check the room details when booking, they are all different! Rooms on the back may be quieter.

Dear EnglishmanAbroad63,

Thank you for your detailed feedback about your recent stay at New Majestic Hotel.

We’re glad you enjoyed our location. Situated along the fringe of Chinatown, it is in close proximity to where the happenings are, yet still maintain a relatively quaint and laid-back environment.

Having said that, we do recognise that the hotel is not for every traveler hence we would appreciate getting to know our guests prior to arrival in order to put them in the most suitable rooms. Indeed, booking directly through our website would enable us to execute this better. We’d love to interact with our guests prior to their check in.

We really appreciate you taking time to share your experience with us and giving us a chance to extend our hospitality to you during your visit here.

Till then, safe travels.

Kind Regards,
Lyndel Joyce

Although this hotel is so close to - well just about everything, there was no sense of city bustle or noise. The reception staff were young, polite, attentive and helpful. We loved the rooms! Sure there are some omissions to accommodate the aesthetic result but we found these a small price to pay, for example there was only a bedside shelf on one side of the bed. We had everything we needed, the coffee maker was great, nice shower, view of the pool, water and juice supplied in the fridge (as well as beers, wines and nibbles you had to pay for) and a safe for passports or valuables. Our room was small but not poky, quite satisfactory for the little time we spent in it! Pool was delightful after a steamy day seeing the sights and towels were delivered to the pool for our use. It is just a minute's walk to the Outram Park MRT station, if we didn't feel like walking, so getting around was easy. Breakfast was generous enough and catered to all tastes. The hotel happily looked after our bags after we checked out until we left for the airport late in the afternoon. We had a very pleasant stay at the New Majestic.

Room Tip: Every room in this hotel is unique, so it's impossible to know what to recommend. It was located...

had a memorable stay here in may 2013, yes this review is long overdue! they upgraded us to a huge room. the room's layout was unique such that the tub was in an open area, and toilet and shower were in separate stalls.
getting to the bed proved to be quite a challenge since we had to climb a ladder (not stairs) to get to bed. no problem though since the sheets and bed were excellent.

unique room layouts, freebies, great toiletries, excellent dimsum breakfast, and its quiet location make the new majestic memorable and worth every penny :)

Dear Prettygis,

Thank you for your lovely review. Even if you stayed with us already some time ago, we are pleased to see you still have a great memory of your stay at New Majestic Hotel!

The Attic Suite you stayed in is definitely a relaxing oasis within our hotel! The bathtubs, stylish in-room decorations, Kiehl's amenities, Nespresso coffee machine and unique artwork from prestigious Singaporean personalities, are additions to make your stay memorable and worth a mention!

We are aware that the loft styled rooms may be challenging at times, however we are happy to hear you were able to enjoy the separate sleeping area nonetheless.
We are always happy to receive guests' notes on their preferences before their arrival, so as to assign the most appropriate room.
Having said this, we encourage every guest to drop us an email whenever you have certain needs or preferences, don't be shy :) we're here to please you as best we can.

We hope to welcome you at one of our properties soon again!

Kindly,

Shari Knott

We booked the Premier Garden room and although we had to wait about 30 mins for our room to be ready, our requests for a quiet area on the pool level was met.The pool was fit for a few laps & best part was we had it for ourselves.Getting food was really hard around that area and the receptionist couldn't give a quick answer as to where was the nearest good food. She sent us in the wrong direction and we walked all the way till Chinatown MRT,2 bus stops away.We enjoyed the private verandah & the bathtub as well as the floating bed with Ploh bedding, plus the Kiehl's amenities were good.We didn't spend much time in the room,it was pretty small & nothing much to do.It was a unique, boutique hotel experience but not much of a staycation type we preferred.

Room Tip: Do your research for which room you prefer as each room is different.

Hi DanialAlCapone,

Greetings and thank you for sharing some of photos from your stay at New Majestic Hotel!

We strive to ensure that each guest is comfortable and we are glad to know that your room request was met. Being a boutique hotel with only 30 rooms, our guests can enjoy personalised service and a quiet getaway from the crowded city.

The hotel is located within a walking distance to the bustling Keong Saik Street housing lovely bars and restaurants. Having said that, we are taking steps to keep our staff abreast of the latest F&B establishments around the vicinity for recommendations. Meanwhile, we do have our Guest Ambassador at your service should you require an indepth recommendation of the hip and happening places to check out in Singapore!

Should you be planning for the next staycation, do check out our sister property, Wanderlust Hotel, located in the cultural enclave of Little India.

Cheers,

This hotel is so cool it hurts!! Gorgeous styling and art but just not comfortable. I was travelling with my 18 year old daughter. We booked a lifestyle room but each room is so different that you really don't know what you are getting! The first room we were shown to had the bed on a landing reached by a step ladder and nowhere else in the room to sit apart from the bath. We were moved to another room (no offer to help with our bags and i had to get the key myself) This room had no window and mirrors all over the ceiling and walls. Also you had to get into the bath to have a shower. Finally we spoke to a manager who was very helpful and moved us to an attic suite. The bed wa still on a platform reached by a ladder but at least we had other seating! There is no bar area downstairs and very little seating area by the pool. The hotel location is very convenient for Chinatown and the MRT but you are paying a lot for cool!

Room Tip: If a window is important make sure you specify that. Also be aware that some of the rooms have beds...

Dear Fourstones,

Thank you for taking the time to share a review of your recent stay with us at New Majestic Hotel!

Set within a heritage building, the architectural constraints create for a unique take on the interior design and layout. To maximise the space and create a one of a kind experience every time our guests return, each Lifestyle Room is designed by prominent local personalities and design agencies, making every room different and out of the ordinary. Having said that, this can pose as a challenge in assigning rooms to our first time guests as each individual may have their preferences which are not communicated to our reservations department. However when the guests are open to a unique experience and we manage to provide this, the gratification is more than overwhelming.

I would like to add that, we are always happy to receive more information about guests’ necessities, likes and dislikes, before their arrival, to assign the most appropriate room depending on availability.

We are sorry to hear our Front Office Staff did not assist you with your luggage, and we will forward your concerns to the involved department.

We are happy to hear you were able to find a room that suited your needs better in the end, and that you enjoyed the rest of your stay with your daughter. The neighbourhood we are in is a vibrant enclave and we have the good fortune of having some of the best coffee shops and bistros in the area. We are pleased you were able to enjoy this as well.

We hope to get a chance to welcome you back in Singapore!

Safe travels,

Cheers,
Shari Knott

Well worth staying at.Staff were great & the restaurant is pretty good too. Our room was clean & comfortable with a massive bed laden with pillows & crisp white bedding & overlooked the pool. Its a short walk to Chinatown & just round the corner from Outram MTR station, easy to get anywhere.Lots of interesting reading in the foyer, staff were calm & friendly. The only downside was no bar & the restaurant charged $12 (singapore dollars) for a beer which normally retails around $5 or $6.
Would highly recommended & much nicer than a huge boring monolith of a hotel,of which there are many in Singapore.

Hi nicola k,

Greetings from New Majestic Hotel! Thank you for your kind compliment of our staff. It’s always good to know that they made your experience a memorable one; from the front desk to the room attendants.

While there is no bar in the hotel, we are in close proximity to Keong Saik Street peppered with hip and happening bars and restaurants. Nevertheless, the in-room mini bar is stocked with beers that retails around $5-$6. Should you require it to be restocked, our team will be happy to assist.

Thank you for your recommendation and do watch out for our newest hotel property closer to home for you in Sydney which is slated to be opened next year! We certainly look forward to welcoming you to our sunny shores again soon!

Cheers,
Lyndel Joyce
