After our Indonesia trip we had three more days to spend in Singapore so we were looking for a place near SMRT station which won't be too expensive since we would only sleep in. J8 is a new hotel with lots of small rooms (Singapore style) that is clean and in 10 min walk to Lavender SMRT station. It's also in the vicinity of City Square mall with food court if you are not into Asian or Indian food.
As previous rewiever mentioned not lots of taxi drivers know where this place is, so tell them that is along the Maude road because Townshend road turned out to be hard to find for them the staff was friendly and helpful so no problems there and also no noise from the street affected us, which is great if you are traveling with two small kids.

The only thing that we missed was juice or at least water with breakfast which is in ever hotel or B&B that we ever stayed in.

Room Tip: If you can try to get the corner rooms since they have the most space

J8 rooms are beautifully decorated, with a lovely bathroom, safe, tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer, aircon and complementary refreshments. The rooms are compact but don't feel claustrophobic like some of the other hotels we saw, and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast is also included. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a lovely place to stay without breaking the bank!

We chose this hotel due to the good reviews here in Tripadvisor as well as the price being lower compared to the other hotels in Singapore. We stayed for 2 nights.

Location
Hotel is located about 10mins walk from Lavender station and 15mins from Farrer Park Station. A bit far I say especially if you are tired and exhausted from sightseeing but convenient since you can walk to different MRT lines depending on where you want to go. It is also near Mustafa Centre and if you are on a budget, you could buy some snacks or liters of water to bring along or refill your water bottles during sightseeing since Singapore has a very humid weather.

Rooms
I was a bit surprised as to how small the room is (we got the Silver Room). But after a while, we realized that it is not too bad. We are still able to move around even if we have 2 bags. The room comes with complimentary 2 bottles of water, and 2 sets of coffee and tea which are replenished every day. Their mini ref also has 2 sodas and mini chocolates which are also complimentary but not replenished. Bathroom is also good and I really liked how the soap, shampoo, shower gel are placed in a dispenser instead of placing them in small bottles. Toiletries are also complete with lotion, shower cap, shoe mitt, etc.

Food
Stay comes with a free breakfast. Food is also good and fulfilling. They have two choices for the guests, one is the western (hashbrown, ham, sausage, vegetable) and the other one varies everyday. We always chose the western though. It also comes with coffee/tea, bread and porridge which you can always go back for more.

Staff
Staff are accommodating and nice. They always attend to your needs. They also have a storage room where you can leave your things if you want to tour before you check-in and after you check-out.

Although the room is small, but the smart arrangement successfully gives it the feeling of spacious. They smartly play with the asymmetric shape of the room, designing [what I think as] tailor-made furniture, to create the comfortable ambient. I specifically like the fact that they omit the wardrobe; just giving us an open flat table for our suitcase, with cloth hangers hovering above. Smart!

The staff is nice and full of smiIe. I stayed for one night in July 2014 and they upgraded my booking into Superior Room for free because they run out of Single Rooms. On top of that, they let me enjoy everything in the minibar FOR FREE! What a nice gesture :-)

The electricity panels are new and looks futuristic. I enjoy the fact that everything (bedside lamp, hair dryer, etc) is off until I switched a button on the panel. It looks like adding safety for guests with young children.

The bathroom amenity is complete. I enjoy the massage bar soap and the hair conditioner they provide. The bathroom might be too spacious for a room this size, but a divider (at least a curtain) separating the bathing area from the toilet will make it more comfortable. It will be perfect if we open the door to the bathroom into the toilet area instead of the bathing area, hence we do not have to walk on the puddle of water anytime we need to use the toilet.

The breakfast they serve is tasty, and the cafe is comfortable. With just approx. 7 minute walk to Lavender MRT Station (or 1 minute walk to Kitchener Rd, accessible by bus no. 130), this hotel is perfect residence for those with limited budget.

Room Tip: Room 106 - 113 might be less comfortable since you have to enter from the cafe. They are perfectly safe, since only those with a card can access the door to the alley of these rooms, but it might give you the feeling of staying in a vault where anybody can see you.

Very very clean hotel. I travel with 7 yrs old daughter. I stayed in gold deluxe. Although the room is not big but It has space enough to feel good.
The decoration is modern I like bathroom floor that made of wood . So my daughter could stand firmly not slide. The breakfast has enough but need improvement because it 's oily and almost burnt for chicken, also sphagetti is full of oil. So need more experience chief for this hotel . Sorry for complain.
Every staffs are friendly & ready to service.
I fully recommend for everyone . It 's reasonable price & good.
From Shangi airport to J8, I recommend u to come with green line Mrt, lavender station. But after that u should travel with Purple line , Farrer Park station bcause it 'more convenient. From farrer park station u can walk inside City Square mall . Walk pass city squre residence then go straight another 2block then turn right . It s there.
