Thanks to Trip advisor reviews my husband and I went in search of Emerald Hill when we visited Singapore last week.A charming oasis of renovated and beautifully decorated shop houses..a photographers dream. Its a residential area,so we tried to be discreet taking photos of people's houses..a few young mums with kids and puppies were chatting out the front of their homes...walk another couple of hundred meters down to Orchard road where there are a number of bars and restaurants...as much as its a little tucked away, Emerald Hill is mentioned on the commentary of the Hop on Hop off bus...so it's not exactly a secret.

There are a few chill-out places along this stretch that serves good wine and beers. Good place for a few drinks with friends after work.

This is a lovely quiet street off Orchard Rd. Some parts have pubs which can get a little rowdy at night.

Suggest to visit during the day to enjoy the quiet street and take pictures with the lovely houses.

If you are walking down Orchard Road from Cuppage Plaza on the right side of the street you will see the sign to Emerald Hill but don't walk to fast and keep your eyes open or you will miss the street. On the Orchard Rd side there is only a sidewalk to your right no street, so you won't see a place where cars can turn in. There are a few bars and small restaurants... To us one of the most amazing about the street is the lack of noise from Orchard Rd, to say nothing about the neat houses and the few places to eat and drink. If you go down the street about 2 blocks you can even take a sidewalk down the hill to the Holiday Inn. It's worth looking at even if you only stay for 30 mins...

In the middle of the orchard tourist shopping madness, one calms down immediately when turning into this quaint little pocket of peace and quiet.

Nice little old style terrace houses give home to a number of bars/bistros.

For Bali Fans: there are two places who serve BinTang Beer ( relatively hard to find otherwise in SIN ) and most places have some tables outside for people watching.

Definitely worth a walk up from orchard for a drink or a bite to eat !
