“not very impressed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 November 2013

We stayed here for 4 nights and found the hotel to be outdated and unfriendly. The rooms were very basic, the pillows extremely hard and uncomfortable. Basic amenities such as tea bags were not refilled at all. Breakfast was over crowded and the food sub standard. Generally I think for the cost of this hotel the service, staff and facilities need to be improved.

Ok, this place is in a very comfortable location. its 2 mins from the City Hall MRT (Green and Red lines). there are 2 wings - the Peninsula Wing and Excelsior Wing.

The Peninsula Wing faces the Marina Bay, and has room that face the Marina Bay Sands, Flier, Boat Quay, Promenade Theatre, Helix Bridge, and the Bay itself.

The excelsior Wing probably faces the city and wouldn't offer as much of the view.

The rooms are quite good, and very comfortable. I stayed in the Permium rooms which was around $250 ++ (SGD).

One thing that swept me off was the Handy mobile device that was offered in the room. U get a mobile fone, which allows unlimited local and international calls, and offers 3G data for free.

Breakfast is quite good as well. the hotel has 2 swimming pools. Staff are friendly as well. Note that check in time is 2p.m but they would accommodate you if they have rooms.

The premier rooms have access to the Sky Lounge that gives you a panoramic view of the city.

GOOD PLACE TO STAY.

Room Tip: Request for a room facing the Marina Bay sands. if you are lucky, you may get your Money's worth...

This hotel is in an excellent location. Walking distance to almost everywhere within central Singapore (Marina Bay, Little India, Chinatown, financial district to name a few). The bathrooms come well-appointed with many toiletries and slippers are included in the closet. The elevators (only 3 of them) are a little slow especially during peak check in and check out time. Although we didn’t try the pools, the hotel does have two pools, and they are set in a nice outdoor environment. The staff is kind, and allowed us to check in a few hours early. The only hiccup was that our keycards stopped working in the middle of our stay, so we had to go to the front desk to get new ones – not sure how common this kind of thing occurs at this property.

TIP: There is a hawker food court next to the hotel along Hill St. Go there for cheap, local, and tasty cuisine.

Room Tip: Try to ask for a room with a view of Marina Bay – you won’t be disappointed, especially if you can c...

Yes, the beds were a bit hard, however that would be the only thing we could possibly fault here. Location was great - easy walking distance to public transport and many restaurant choices close by.

It is however, the service that was by far the best aspect. We had requested adjoining rooms, if possible, as we were a group travelling together for my sisters birthday. With the type of room we had selected, there were no adjoining rooms available. Next thing you know - upgrade! The view was amazing, the housekeeping staff were very pleasant and efficient and the icing on the cake was the chocolates and card left on my sisters pillow on her birthday wishing her a great day! She felt so spoilt!

Rock hard bed however modern and nicely appointed. Food was expensive and below average (can of soft drink was 8 singaporean dollars) better food and value at Mos Burger (local burger establishment in shopping complex).

No free WiFi which in today's world was disappointing. Cost is $5 (Singarorean) for one hour, which, by the time you post a few pictures and status updates on Facebook, your hour is up.

If shopping retail is your thing then you won't be in your room long enough to care because you will shop till you drop. More stores and complexes per square metre than any other place I have been to.

Stayed in a standard room, for 5 nights on business.
The location is indeed great, near the funan center and 2 minutes from the City Hall MRT station.

Besides that, the interior is a little old, and it is noticed (air-conditioning can either cause the room to be too cold / hot and it is hard to set correctly), the toilet lacked ventilation and it sometime cuased a little smell.

Don't get me wrong - it served as a fine, clean base for business and for exploring the city afterwards, and it was on the relatively cheaper range of such hotels - but no more. If you're not expecting luxury and expecting an OK place to sleep - it will do.

Note that when I arrived, the airconditioning wasn't working too good - and I had to ask 3 times (waiting several hours between each time) till it was taken care off. While it wasn't horrible (the lowest temperature was a bit too hot to my standard), this level of service is below the standard in Asia.

Had 5 nights in the Excelsior and it was a very good choice for me. The room was clean & bright and the breakfast in the morning is a good start to the day. Being located centrally it's easy to get around Singapore by public transport.

This is the second time I have stayed here, I would stay again if I go back to Singapore.

Room Tip: When coming to the hotel from the airport, take the subway (cost 2 dollars) and get off at City Hall...
