“A cozy home away from home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2012

I stayed here about a month ago and loved every minute of it! The owners were very friendly and helpful, and it was great that they have student interns which are there all the time to help as well.

What was just so impressive to me was the fact that I rolled in from an overnight bus from Santiago...got to their hostel/B&B around 830am and by 1030am I was already riding horses in the mountains, and that evening they booked my tour for the thermal baths. My next day was equally great!

The breakfast is awesome!! It's more typical of a German breakfast than that of Chile. It was all fresh baked break and fresh food...delicious!

Next year I plan on returning with my tour group (of 4-8 people). This place was so comfortable and just a quick 10 min walk into town. Since I was traveling alone, I felt this was a very safe location, and I even walked back from the grocery store by myself in the dark. Pucon felt like a very safe town. CANT wait to return next year!!!

I stayed at Elementos for 3 nights. The hostel is basic but nice. There are a number of students doing internship work there which are nice and very helpful. What is disappointing however is how pushy the owners are to sell tours, to the point that they try to make you feel like you are doing something wrong if you decide not to book it with them. What makes it worse is that their tours are quite a bit more expensive than the other tours that can be found in town of comparable quality (the climb of vulcan villarica offered is more expensive than the one offered by the Grand Hotel of Pucon...).
What I found even more annoying is that just before I left the husband of the couple asked me insistently to write a good review on Trip Advisor. He even sat me in front of a computer and said I should write one before leaving and stood behind me to make sure I did... I obviously felt very uncomfortable and refused to do it after a little while. I am not sure if this violates Trip Advisor's policy but it certainly was an unpleasant experience.

In summary it is not a bad hostel if the owners are not there (they were not there for one of the three nights) as the students are nice and helpful and if you do not book any tours with them.

Hi!

I am just reviewing this and am glad to inform you that my "pushy EX partner" isn´t here any more. Not to discredit or something, but we had a few discussions about what I perceived to be too pushy (being German), while he was "just selling" (being Chilean)...

As the person in charge of personnel training, our full time staff and interned is trained by me and maybe that helps see our service standards.

Also, obviously, any feedback is welcome, as it is the only way to get better at what we do. If it is public, better for all. However, my policy is that we INVITE to give feedback. Sorry!

Maybe you come back one day and give us another opportunity :)

Best regards from Pucón!

Arrived without accomadation in Pucon early morning to the welcoming of Alejandro (co-owner) he showed us flyers informing us the hostel was all but 5 mins away from the bus station. It was exactly that, they have 2 sheep and 2 beautiful-family friendly dogs. It really is family orientated and they do everything to make you feel welcomed; Pisco nights, mean BBQs and mini Spanish lessons (Many thanks Alejandro!). There is a building being built behind the hostel but I hardly noticed it was peaceful and had brilliant views of the mountains and Volcano Villarica. It is good value for money and I didnt want to leave when it came around to it! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay in Pucon ... HIghly recommend staying here xxx P.S. the beds were SO comfy and the showers were consistently hot thought this was worth a mention!

We did the Mapuche tour with a small group. It includes a visit to the Leon waterfall, Mapuche cultural center in Curraruhue, Delicious indiginous lunch and a visit to a local family with traditional houses! We had a great entertaining and interresting day! Thank you Sarina for al the information and good luck in the future.

I arrived with my girlfriend at Elemontos Hostel, Pucon, with a reservation from Booking. We had pre-booked a room with a private bathroom. Our first impresion was poor - beginning with the humble neighborhood, the high fences around the hostel and the goats, dogs and the stacked inflatable boats within the compound. We have to admit that we were kindly greeted by a german young man that showed us our room and tried to reacomodate into a better room. My girlfriend and I had been traveling trough Argentina and Chile staying in romantic B&B and hostels, and this hostel did not fit our profile. Apart from the surroundings, and the goats, below the great room view to the volcano Osorno, lied a squad of 30 or 40 workers with bulldozers and mud lakes in plain concrete constructions. Nevertheless, the private bathroom lies across the main hall (not inside the bedroom). The bed mattress box is on the floor (no bed legs) and from plain sight, they should cover it with a bed skirt to hide the normal (ab)use it has. WE DID NOT STAY AND CAME TO AN AGREEMENT TO PAY Bookings 19% reserve fee.
After this incident, we decided whenever posible to first see a hotel before booking, since OUR EXPERIENCE we learned that photos can be misguiding. In Elementos Hostel photos you won´t see the people and bulldozer working behind in the backyard nor the goats or the german sheperd and the high fences. We have to thank that we were only charged 19% and that the German young man was polite.

Dear Ignacio,

In response to your feedback, we would like to comment our version of the occured and our impression of your feedback.

As many times before, we received a reservation through booking.com, for our room "Tierra", which is a double room on the ground floor, with private bathroom across the hall (mentioned as such on Booking, the hall being exactly one meter wide..). From this room, you have a beautiful view of the Villarrica Volcano (NOT the Osorno Volcano, located some 250 km from Pucón..., making me wonder of you actually know where you where).

You and your girlfriend arrived to the Elementos EcoHostel, apparently expecting something very diferent from what we can and want to offer. One of the first comments made was "Chile looks much poorer than Argentina...". The building that hosts our Elementos EcoHostel, a sustainable Bed & Breakfast, is a wooden building only finished in 2009. Our guests and we perceive it as a nice house in a Pucón-middle-class neighborhood. The pictures on our website, on Booking.com and also here on TripAdvisor, show it and us in diferent situations and are accurate and up to date.

As you expressed clearly that you didn´t like the room you booked, we offered to change you into our superior room "Fuego", with en suite bathroom and Villarrica volcano view balcony. It has a beautiful rattan futón bed, that - by nature of futón beds - is placed on the floor. I am not sure which "normal (ab)use" you recommend us to hide with a bed skirt. The stylish bed is also visible as such on the pictures.

You are right, a large real estate company bought the beautiful field behind our house to build town houses. Us and other environmentalists tried to prevent it, but couldn´t. Thus, until the constructions of the town houses are finished, during working hours, unfortunately, there are people working. However, neither the constructions nor the finished houses impair the view of the majestetic Villarrica volcano and you can still see it 100%.

As a family and hostel operators, we do have two pet goats, Mago and Määähhggie, and two dogs, Aruna (Akita) and Máximo (a labrador size mixed-breed). The four are usually liked by our passangers and make them feel at home. We don´t have a German Sheperd and never had one.

When booking accomodation online and looking for a hotel instead of a family run B&B or hostel, I recommend to check for hotels in the 3*** or 4**** category - and accept their according pricing - in the future.

Unfortunately, Booking.com charges us their comission, if the reservations is cancelled within less than 72 hours before the reserved night. Even though we could have charged you the full night, we dicided to be better off letting you go and only charged you the 10% comission we have to pay yo Booking. We did not charge you 19%.

It also makes us feel very uncomfortable, when someone arrives to our home, making us feel as if we offered a "poor housing option in a humble neighborhood" and, after deciding to stay elsewhere, leaves a very negative feedback for the public, including comments that are even incorrect, from an objective point of view.

Greatfully, we do have many happy travelers, and even couples on honeymoon, who enjoy the facilities of the Elementos EcoHostel, it´s surroundings, our animals, our family atmosphere and our staff.

A little out of town away from the hustle however what it lacks in location it makes up for with in character. The staff literally can't do enough for you, forget the free coffee and tea they even make it for you. They have a good sense of humour as well, their shower policy states "save water, shower with a friend". Excellent breakfast too, more than just the usual bread and jam, there's yogurt, fruit etc and served from 6am so you get to eat before you go up volcano villarrica where trips usually start at around 6.30-7am...

I stayed at Elementos 3 nights and for the whole time I was made feel like part of the family. They treat you warmly and are there to answer any questions and help you with anything. They even spent hours showing me photos of places for my upcoming tripsnorth and giving me advises.
The hostel is very clean and the rooms are new and spacious with comfy beds. Breakfasts are excellent and much more comparable to a very good hotel than a hostel (natural youghurts, home made jam and bread, cereals, fruit...). The hostel is within easy walking distance from Pucon centre (5 minutes) but has the advantage of not being right in the middle of the town which can by quite noisy at night.
They also organise trips and excursions from you.
WEll done to all!
