Da Alessandro was the first restaurant we visited during our week in Puerto Varas. I have to say, it was an excellent introduction to the high quality of food and service to be found in the area.
We weren't so hungry for lunch, so we thought we would order and share a medium 4 cheese pizza with the addition of salami. What a good choice! The pizza was so great. The crust was perfect. We even had a nice time munching on breadsticks and pizza sauce while we waited for our order.
We were sitting there, enjoying the view of the lake and volcano, the unexpected middle of winter sunshine, and generally being happy as we chatted away. I saw a guy stoking the fire near where we were sitting. When he returned to serve our pizza, he startled us with his amazing English! I wish I knew his name. He said he attended a school in Santiago that was entirely in English, so it really seemed he had dual first languages instead of a second language. We were very happy to meet him and we were sorry we didn't have a chance to return during our week there, but we will definitely be back after we move!
I have to also comment on the incredible service. Help was never far away and the server even returned to serve our second slices of pizza when he saw we had finished the first. That's great service! I can't wait to return and try out more of the very reasonably priced menu!
