I have take more photos of this mountain than anything else. It is snow-capped overlooking Lago Llanquihue and beautiful by sun or moonlight. Best views probably from Puerto Varas or Frutillar.

driving up to the top and catching a glimps of the towering volcano top dose not prepare you for the magstic volcano.
on the bottom looking up you fear it might errupt any moment.we loved the feeling.
we hiked to the first ski stop on little basalt stones surraounded by amezing views of lakes ,mountains and more volcanos.
run .

Volcan Osorno is quite breathtaking from afar. We were there the day after Xmas, and although you could see the top at times, by the time we drove up there on a private tour, we could not see a thing. It was freezing cold. We were quite disappointed as we had looked forward to taking the chair lifts as far as we could. Our guide was rather useless, as he knew that the conditions at the top were bad prior to our going there, but took us (wasting our time) up the 14Km winding road. If you get the chance and the weather is clear, by all means GO...

The volcano is a local ski resort that doubles as a tourist attraction during (southern hemisphere) summer. Most tours drop you off at the ski lodge, from which you take two ski lifts about half-way up the volcano. The whole trip should take two to three hours. The views are well worth it.

There are two tickets per person to purchase at the lodge, one per lift. You don't need a tour operator - can take a taxi or rent a car. Local drivers are fairly civilized - I'd take Puerto Montt over Boston any day.

Did the Turistour Volcan Osorno day tour on their summer. They basically drive you to the volcan where you can buy a chairlift ride for a stunning view of the region. No snow but there's some ice on the top of the mountain and you can see the different flora of the region during summertime. Highly recommended! If you don't want to go through Turistour, you can rent a car or get a cab.
