We started our Chile experience at Casa Molino. After an overnight flight from the US and then another flight from Santiago to Puerto Montt, seeing the elegant surroundings of Casa Molino as a welcome relief! The grounds are immaculately landscaped with views of the volcano and lake.

Rooms are named after the cities surrounding the lake. We were in the Frutillar room on the ground floor. We were there on Sunday/Monday evenings and only one other couple was there. It was very quiet and we got an excellent nights sleep. Even on the ground floor, the volcano could be seen from the bed. There was also a separate sitting room with a view and a well appointed bathroom with vessel sink, bathtub/shower combo with plenty of hot water, and nice toiletries.

The hotel is about 10-15 min from Puerto Varas, about half of it on a gravel road. We eventually got used to gravel roads after our time in Chile. We ended up eating dinner at the hotel both nights as it was autumn and getting dark early. We wanted to be able to enjoy wine and not have to worry about the drive home after dinner. The menu is posted daily with two choices for appetizer, main course, and dessert. Dinner is of good quality, likely on par with what you could get in town. However, you need to let them know around late afternoon if you'll be joining them. After exploring for the days were were there, we ordered a bottle of wine in their living room and enjoyed the fireplace and view before dinner. The second night, we had had a late larger late lunch, so we ended up sharing one meal between the two of us, which worked out well.

Breakfast is generous with the usual cheese, meat, yogurt, granola, and fruit. Eggs are also offered and cooked to order. You tell them what time to expect you for dinner the night before.

WiFi worked well in the room and the common areas. It was fast, had good connection, and was free.

There is a path to a private beach by the lake. There is no pool or whirlpool. I think great addition would be a hot tub for guests to relax in after a day of exploring.

We didn't encounter any odd or additional fees. Since the hotel is not in town, we stopped at a grocery store and picked up a few bottles of water/soda/snacks to enjoy in our room. We did not bring our own wine, but I would not think it unusual to have a corkage fee if you wanted to enjoy it in the living room or with dinner and used the hotels stemware.

The biggest downside is that you have to take a taxi into town which is about a 10 minute drive. Also there was no dinner available Sunday evening not even any snacks and we didn't feel like going into town.

$10 corking fee if you bring your own bottle to the hotel. Per item fee to wash clothes (almost $3 for a pair of underwear). The place is brilliantly beautiful, amazingly perfect grounds with beautiful flowers, cozy lobby with a fire, but the fees turned me off to the place. It's a close drive to town, but the road is one of the worst we encountered in the country. Make sure you ask for faxed directions before you go; the access is VERY easy to miss once you exit from route 5.

Absolutely lovely grounds, flowers and views of the lake and volcanoes. Breathtaking, in fact! CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN. Comfortable bed. Very nice buffet breakfast with the best coffee we had on our entire 26-day holiday in Chile. Very, very quiet. Approximately a 15-minute drive to Puerto Varas, but easy to do even in the dark if you choose to have dinner in Puerto Varas. Very convenient, easy drive to the Puerto Montt airport (about 30 minutes).

We made our booking for the room, which included breakfast based on a USD price. No problem -- we wanted to pay with our USA credit card in USD. We knew Casa Molino served dinners, but we decided to make the decision about eating there after we arrived. We made no commitment on dinners.

Once at the hotel we learned the dinner menu is posted each day in the lobby and you simply tell the desk if you will be eating at their restaurant or not. Very good. We thought that was great structure for a small hotel and have seen it many times at other boutique hotels. The posted menu quotes the dinner prices both in USD and Chilean pesos. Though we had contracted to pay for our room in USD with our credit card, we wanted to pay for our dinners and wine (not previously contracted, remember) in Chilean pesos cash. We had used this payment combination at several other boutique hotels throught Chile with no problem. At Casa Molino, however, it simply was NOT permitted. We HAD to pay for our dinners with USD "because our original room booking was quoted and contracted with a USD price." So of course, we had to abide by their wishes.

Certainly that is not the end of the world, but we simply couldn't figure out why they wouldn't let us pay for the dinners and wine in Chilean pesos (the dinners and wine which were in fact merely add-ons to the original contracted room booking and are even made on a day-by-day basis). We simply could not understand it, but it was "policy." We realize this situation might be unique and not affect most of you reading this review, but we wanted to mention it. Other than being totally immovable on this issue (they did not want to go out of their way to accommodate what we thought was not an unreasonable request), guest service was excellent. They pride themselves on guest service, and they did a great job of that at every type of service that THEY thought we needed. The one special thing WE asked for they "were not able to do."

Though we really had our feelings hurt by their being intractable on our currency/payment request, we would still stay here again because of the location and the cleanliness. In fact since we then drove into Puerto Varas for dinner, and we had such good meals and wine in town, maybe it was a blessing in disguise!

My wife and I had the most incredible four days in lovely Casa Molino. A wonderful boutique hotel in Puerto Varas, Chile. What an incredible experience. The staff is super attentive, the views are incredible, the food is to die for, and the rooms are wonderful. I hope to go back over and over!!! Highly recommend it. Rodrigo gives wonderful tours!!!!!

Room Tip: Get a room with a view. Costs more, but it is soooo worth it!

We had a very pleasant stay at this property during our travels in South America. The room was plenty big and the bed was extremely comfortable. The staff was so attentive! Everyone was genuinely caring and accommodating at any hour of day or night. A small piece of advice: we woke up very hot at night and were just thinking it was getting stuffy in the room, but turned out the heat had been on. So check the wall radiators if they are on or not, depending on temp preference. We just weren't expecting heaters to be used in the summer. :-) Also, the drive in to the property is partially on dirt road and you have to drive to get into town. This was not a problem for us at all (we were comfortable driving on the roads and seeking solitude), but should be considered if proximity to town is a priority. The breakfasts were very good and generous. The access to the private beach is a nice touch too. Would stay here again in a heartbeat....if only Puerto Varas was not so far from San Diego!

Room Tip: Reserve a room facing the lake.
