We started our Chile experience at Casa Molino. After an overnight flight from the US and then another flight from Santiago to Puerto Montt, seeing the elegant surroundings of Casa Molino as a welcome relief! The grounds are immaculately landscaped with views of the volcano and lake.
Rooms are named after the cities surrounding the lake. We were in the Frutillar room on the ground floor. We were there on Sunday/Monday evenings and only one other couple was there. It was very quiet and we got an excellent nights sleep. Even on the ground floor, the volcano could be seen from the bed. There was also a separate sitting room with a view and a well appointed bathroom with vessel sink, bathtub/shower combo with plenty of hot water, and nice toiletries.
The hotel is about 10-15 min from Puerto Varas, about half of it on a gravel road. We eventually got used to gravel roads after our time in Chile. We ended up eating dinner at the hotel both nights as it was autumn and getting dark early. We wanted to be able to enjoy wine and not have to worry about the drive home after dinner. The menu is posted daily with two choices for appetizer, main course, and dessert. Dinner is of good quality, likely on par with what you could get in town. However, you need to let them know around late afternoon if you'll be joining them. After exploring for the days were were there, we ordered a bottle of wine in their living room and enjoyed the fireplace and view before dinner. The second night, we had had a late larger late lunch, so we ended up sharing one meal between the two of us, which worked out well.
Breakfast is generous with the usual cheese, meat, yogurt, granola, and fruit. Eggs are also offered and cooked to order. You tell them what time to expect you for dinner the night before.
WiFi worked well in the room and the common areas. It was fast, had good connection, and was free.
There is a path to a private beach by the lake. There is no pool or whirlpool. I think great addition would be a hot tub for guests to relax in after a day of exploring.
We didn't encounter any odd or additional fees. Since the hotel is not in town, we stopped at a grocery store and picked up a few bottles of water/soda/snacks to enjoy in our room. We did not bring our own wine, but I would not think it unusual to have a corkage fee if you wanted to enjoy it in the living room or with dinner and used the hotels stemware.
