Nice hotel, lovely building, good room and bathroom; good breakfast/room and lounge. We booked 2 nights at short notice and this was the best deal available but at £65/night this was a little expensive I think. Maybe Puerto Varas is expensive because of its location. A good hotel, I would go back in same circumstances.

Maybe we were expecting too much of Chilean hotels outside the main cities? From the outside a very striking, quirky building in dark blue. Inside very rustic. Our room was very rickety, just about big enough for a double room. The standard of cleanliness was questionable, but again maybe we expected too much? Most things worked okay though the shower temperature suddenly varied from cold to scalding hot which of course is potentially very unpleasant/dangerous.
Breakfast like everything else was just about okay but one of the poorest we experienced on our 5 week tour. A small individual dish of mixed fruit, one flavour of yoghurt, one flavour of fruit juice, the usual cold meats/cheese, scrambled eggs, bleached white bread which was almost inedible even when toasted, a cake, and urn coffee/hot water, all in a very confined area which if full, as it was when we were there, is not a pleasant experience.
There is a very adequate lounge/seating area to relax in with a good Wi-Fi signal.
Location is not good if you want easy access to the centre of Puerto Varas, it is a pleasant walk along the waterfront apart from close, fast moving traffic, and takes at least 20 minutes. Don't miss the ' La Gringa', two minutes walk down the hill, a great restaurant.
So overall, just about okay for a short/overnight stay, but certainly not memorable.

We stayed at Casa Kalfu for 4 nights in November. The hotel was nice. We had a triple room which was a bit on the small side, but there was a large common area to relax in and we really only slept and showered in the room. The staff was friendly. The breakfast was fine and we were provided with a glass of fresh juice upon arrival at breakfast. While not in the downtown area, it was an easy walk to the Plaza de Armas and other places in town. There was a wonderful restaurant/cafe just down the street. The hotel had ample parking in the rear. Overall, a good experience for us.

I think everyone else must have been looking out of the windows!!

This is a dirty, shaby, unfriendly hotel with the worst breakfast we have had in Chile.

The room was dirty, my wife took a shower when we arrived and had to scrape a clump of black hair from the plughole to get the water to drain properly, when she got out of the shower she noticed black hair on her feet and wiped the floor with the bathmat only to find it was filthy because the floor hadn't been cleaned. (Neither of us have black hair). The bedspreads also looked as if they had never been washed although thankfully the sheets were clean. There is only soap from dispensers, no separate shampoo and soap. The dispenser on the bathroom sink didn't work. Also there aren't any surfaces to put anything on except the sink and a small surround.

Our room overlooked the garden, the blinds didn't cover the window properly leaving a 3cm gap through which a street light shone all night and then daylight of course.

As for the breakfast, and the owners previous replies to poor reviews, natural and local doesn't have to mean inedible. The choice of bread was dodgy grey sliced or seedy bread with so many grains it was like cardboard. The meats looked as if they had been there for a week and there was a scrap of scrambled egg that had obviously been cooked an hour or two earlier and was going grey from standing there so long.

As for asking for more fruit juice or eggs cooked to order we would have done if anyone had made it clear it was possible. Two half filled glasses of juice were plonked on our table by someone who looked as though they hated their job. As someone in a previous review said, put fruit juice and fruit etc. out so that people can take what they need. Don't ration them.

And as someone else pointed out - the most prominent thing on the breakfast table was the bottle for tips. Needless to say we didn't leave one.

The main lobby area was OK and whilst it had a certain twee charm it also didn't look at all clean, it was pretty shaby. Wifi is only available in the lobby although you could connect from our room as it was close enough.

On checkout we would have made this known but the lady was only interested in taking our money. She didn't ask if we had enjoyed our stay or anything else and it wasn't that she didn't speak English.

Awful place. Don't stay there if you can avoid it. Chile does hotels much better than this.

We stayed for three nights at this hotel. They were friendly and efficient. There is a very nice sitting area with books and a bar. We found the breakfast pretty good and the staff helpful. For example we were going to do some picnics and wanted a couple of plastic cups, they happily lent these to us.
The restaurant down the road is great.
The location is nice as it is a stone's throw from the lake. We had a car so it was easy for us to get anywhere but it is a good twenty minutes walk if not longer into town.

We stayed at Casa Kalfu for 2 nights in November.

The hotel itself feels very much like a European style ski chalet, with lots of wood and cozy decorations. Our room was a good size, very clean and importantly was warm in the chilly evenings.

There is a nice seating area for guests downstairs with a view out over the lake and volcanoes. Wifi worked really well in this area but we couldn't access it from our room.

We thought the hotel was really well located as it is between the main town area (around 10min walk) and the beach strip with bars/restaurants (around 5 minute walk). It is a 30second walk down to the lake.

There is also a fantastic place to eat lunch at the end of the street that the hotel is on (la gringa - v highly rated on trip advisor too).

The staff don't speak much English but they helped us to rent a car for the day and helped us when we had questions.

Breakfast is nice but quite a small selection.

I would recommend this as a place to stay in puerto varas.

The location is nice and quiet, downtown is within walking distance (15 to 20 minutes) and good restaurants are just around the corner. We had a room on the top floor with a view of the lake. Beds were comfortable and the bathroom was spacious.
Breakfast was good. They serve rather small glasses of freshly pressed orange juice and it is rather difficult to get a refill, just like another reviewer remarked. I think this "problem" could be solved if they just served bottled juice and let people help themselves.

Room Tip: Some rooms on the top floor have a view of the lake and are very nice.
