“Little to offer, small dishes and expensive”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2014 via mobile

Theses spanish ladies are now at Costanera, by the lake. The place is fine, much bigger than the old house they were located before. But the menu is restricted to few dishes. We went with friends and we payed almost US$ 30 for a dish of rice with a top of shrimps in a tomate sauce. The fillet with potatoes and a sauce was good but a piece of not more than 200 gr. At the Olla nearby restaurant, you pay almost a half for better quality. Too expensive for Puerto Varas

“Earns the tag 'gem'!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2013

It was somehow hard for the taxi driver to find it, and when we arrived, we were a bit confused as it looked more like a house than a restaurant. Once we stepped in, we were like wow! The decor was quirky but welcoming. The place was empty though, which was worrying. My friend is a very fussy vegetarian, but they were very accommodating with her dietary requirements. When our food came, the plating was not what I expected at all. But the dishes were faultless. There were some big flavours but they were beautifully balanced. In brief, it was like dinner prepared by a favourite aunty who is an amazing cook! High marks for everything, totally recommend it.

“Was worth the wait”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 March 2013

We loved our food. I had the roasted tomato soup and the hubby had seafood. Then, he had a great fish dish while I had a very unusual palmito risotto. Surprising and delicious. Everything was tasty and cooked to perfection.

Great cosy atmosphere, we liked how the house was decorated. Again, unusual but done with taste. Service was very nice. Although my only vegetarian option was the the risotto, the owner would have made me a vegetarian paella but it had to be for 2 persons. Hubby loves his fish so I stuck with the risotto.

Our only downside was that we waited a very long time. We arrived at about 8:40, without a reservation. Later on the owner kindly apologized, if we understood correctly, they mainly work on reservations so we kind of messed up the "schedule". Before leaving the Chef (the sister's owner I assume) offered us an "espumante" for the wait. Nice touch.

All in all, we had a great night and are glad we got to eat at Xic Dali!

“Good but not sure why it is number 1?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 March 2013 via mobile

Yes it is different because you eat at a home but so do 20 others! One of the starters was excellent and we had paella but we have had better in Spain. Ok but there must be better in Puerto Varas particular as far as speed of serving is concerned? Get a street map...it is not easy to find and be careful it is a one way street but has plenty of parking in the road.
I think it would take hours if it was busy.

“A small gem in puerto varas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2013

This is a OMG moment. Small, decorated intersetingly, many dun details in the way the table is set and service by one of the owners a great and enchanting moment. Food is very good and the menu is interesting in the variety and tastes. This IS spansih cuisine so expect strong flavors and garlicy olive oli and good wine. We enjoyed all our dishes (for adults), shared and compred and were VERY glad to add this as part of our holiday experience. Highly reccomended. Things like this are not easy to find.
