“Great Week At Bordemundo!”
Reviewed 16 July 2013

In preparation for a move to the area, my husband and I spent a week staying at Bordemundo while we looked for a rental house and became familiar with Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt. I specifically chose Bordemundo for our home base during that week because we needed someone who spoke English to help us get started off on the right foot. We also wanted a place with a kitchen so we could prepare some of our own meals.

Javiera, the owner of Bordemundo, was truly the greatest part of our stay. She is lovely, warm, friendly, welcoming, and so very helpful. We became fast friends and realized within a couple of days that Javi will be a lifelong friend after we move to the area.

The cabins are well equipped with a fridge/freezer, gas stove/oven, countertop, microwave, electric water kettle, pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and sink. We had a dining table, 2 couches in the living room area that could also serve as beds, a bedroom with a queen, a second bedroom with 2 twins, closets in both rooms, a bathroom with shower, and a great wood burning stove for the cold nights.

We stayed in the middle of winter. Javiera will start the fire for you and you just have to feed in more logs through the night or you can start it yourself and the wood supply is always refreshed every day when the cabins are cleaned. The cabins are kept incredibly tidy. We felt like we were coming to the cabin for the first time every day when we returned.

There is good wi-fi and an amazing breakfast is available on request. We always had enough left over from breakfast for at least another meal.

The location of Bordemundo is great. It's on the edge of Puerto Varas so it's very quiet at night and the stars on a clear night are amazing. But the trip into Puerto Varas is short. That side of Puerto Varas has a small strip mall area with a mini Jumbo where you can find supplies for your cabin kitchen. There is also a Dunkin' Donuts, pharmacy, Japanese restaurant, pet store, and fishing outfitter in that strip mall area. A little further up the road you will find many of the most popular restaurants Puerto Varas has to offer. If you continue up the same road, you can park near Cassis, next to the lake, and explore downtown Puerto Varas on foot. Parking in that area costs 300 CP for 20 minutes (if memory serves). The cabins themselves are a short walk to a stretch of private beachfront on Lake Llanquihue. It's just breathtaking if you make the trek down there.

I think if you want to be away from everything, have your own space, yet still be within a short distance of Puerto Varas, Bordemundo is an excellent location for a great price. You can't have so much space, quiet, and access to the outdoors by staying in a hotel in town. Javiera can also give you contact information for a good rental car option.

Long story short, I highly recommend Bordemundo. Javiera could easily be the difference between a mediocre visit to Puerto Varas and a fantastic visit because of her warmth, her helpfulness, and her vast knowledge of the area.

Room Tip: There are only two cabins and differences between them are negligible.

It’s difficult not to be influenced by Javiera the owner who is very delightful and helpful. The cabin is very well equipped and suitable as a home for two people - it could accommodate four people at a squeeze. Breakfast was good and I slept well. The whole cabin is rustic and probably 40 to 50 years old; much loved no doubt but the bathroom in particular needs enlarging and total renovation. The view was also disappointing as shrubbery has grown up obscuring the view of the lake. Regrettably this B&B wasn't the right accommodation for me.

Indeed the cabins do have 30 years, and have been renovated now this winter, a year after you stayed, we can proudly say the toilettes are looking amazing, and every bit that was old has been replaced. The "shrubbery" wich are valuable native Maki trees have been transported so the view is much clearer. We thank you for your feedback, and wish you the best, we are truly sorry we couln't meet your standards.

Wonderful place to relax in the most pleasant atmosphere. The cabin has all the things you need to feel at home with the most spectacular view to the lake and the volcano. There is a large area to walk around and it has an amazing beach to relax. Javi, the owner of the B&B gives an excellent services and the info that she gave us to get the best of the daytrips where really helpful. And definitely I have to mention the exceptional breakfast they serve with local and organic products … mmhh! Hope to return soon !!!

My husband and I stayed in one of Javiera's cabins for 3 nights just before Christmas, and loved it! The cabins are spacious, the wood burning stove heats up the space in minutes, the kitchen is well equipped, and the breakfast delicious. Being greeted by very snuggly dogs every day was an added bonus. The view is stunning, even when the volcano is under cloud, and the beach picturesque even when the weather is not so good. We were so glad to escape from the hustle and bustle of Puerto Varas, and here you felt as if you were in the middle of nowhere, which is exactly what we wanted. It's a perfect base for touring the Lake District, with plenty of room to spread out your belongings and if neccessary dry them (we had wet weather), and a good hot shower. Forget the hotels in town, stay here and shop in the local Lider for food!

Javiera was a most pleasant hostess and attended to us in a most gracious manner. Her cabins were perfectly located for discovering the Chilean Lake District with views of the volcanoes surrounding the lake were wonderful. Her breakfasts were FANTASTIC!!.

This cabanas are really at a nice place, directly next to the lake. You can see the volcano Osorno out of your bedroom. The people there where more than kind, and provided us lots of information about the surrounding.

The cabanas are not in the centre of puerto varas, in my opinion another advantage to enjoy the nature. All in all a perfect stay.

This is a truly beautiful set of cabins just outside Puerto Varas, with an exquisite view of the volcano and lake, plus beach access! The owner is young, lovely and charming and serves an amazing home made breakfast. Despite their rustic and otherworldly look, the cabins have internet, a kitchen etc. and are a really comfortable and practical place to stay. I would recommend this to absolutely anyone traveling around the south of chile in any season.
