PROS:

Central location
Nice and large rooms

CONS:

Unfriendly staff, no smiles, they act if they were doing us a favour.
Noisy, especially if your room is close to elevators
You can hear what you neighboor is doing, noisy, noisy and noisy!!! Bring ear plugs
Hotel looks old, needs some update
Expensive, it is just a normal 3 starts hotel

Room Tip: Ask for rooms away from elevators, otherwise you will not sleep

The hotel is conveniently located, close to the river and the market. The room was big, nice and clean, with a great view of the river. The breakfast was superb, many options and good food. Just be careful when you pay. I was charge more, and I have to explain that I made a reservation trough internet with a cheaper price. They finally fix it. Also pay in dollars, if you pay with pesos, they charge you taxes, like 15% more.

The Valdivia Diego De Almagro is part of a small chain of hotels in Chile and they do an excellent job. It is well located(five minutes walk from downtown), with river views, clean, quite, and well insulated. Service is prompt and polite, and the included breakfast is very good. In fact, Valdivia does not have many mid-range hotel choices: you either spend the high rates of the "Dream" hotel and casino (easily US$ 250.00 a night), or go half and hour out of town to the Naguilan, Puerta Del Sur or Villa Del Rio (you depend on taxi rides). The Diego De Almagro is definitely the better choice for superior centrally located accommodations. There are also "inns" and "bed and breakfast" places all over town, but most are substandard.
