If you go to only one Museum in Santiago choose this one. It has the most amazing and extensive collection of Precolumbian artefacts. The textile room is simply breathtaking when considering the age of these handmade pieces. Many are displayed in drawers ( for preservation in darkness) that need to be opened by pressing a button.

For a country with one of the lowest expenditure on culture and science by development stage in the world, the curators have done quite an amazing job in pulling this collection together. Unfortunately, some dates are missing and some regions are entirely absent. The museum has some special areas for kids and due to the small size it is a good option for a family visit. One of the best museums of the country.

Very interesting. Relics are in great shape mostly from graves. Descriptions also in English.
Not a large collection but diverse.

What a fabulous museum with lovely Chilean items down on the lower floor but equally fantastic relics from central America on the upper floor. There is an endless series of fascinating items, just enough not to be overwhelming but pieces of startling beauty and in remarkable condition. The room of textiles is especially amazing and should be compulsory visitation to visitors to Santiago; simply marvellous.

Simply amazing collection of pre-Columbian art in exemplary condition. Make sure to see the textiles, they're fantastic! Plan on spending a minimum of 2 hours to view everything adequately.
