My husband and I signed up for the evening bike tour. We were the only two on the ride and had a wonderful time with Jose Miguel, who passionately explained the cultural, social, and political challenges facing Santiago as he took us cycling through the beautiful Santiago parks. I highly recommend a cycle tour as a great way to see and get to know the city. This tour was the most expensive of their trips, and it seemed a bit pricey for what we got.

La Bicicleta Verde is a three year old company offering interesting day tours of Santiago. If you're a serious rider, this is probably not what you're looking for. If you enjoy seeing things up close and personal (which you certainly do on a bike), then this is for you. We took the morning bike ride that led us on a tour of local neighborhoods and markets. There were five people in our group including myself and about 7 other people from various countries. So, we were 12 in all. We had an English speaking guide who rode at the front of the group with one member of La Bicicleta Verde in the middle of the pack and one person who rode at the end just ot make sure that everyone traveled safely through the city streets. We started out in the Bella Vista neighborhood and we stopped at Pablo Neruda's home in Santiago although we didn't actually go into the museum. From there, we rode into the Barrio Patronato and eventually made our way to the Vega Market. which is literally like a city of fruits and vegetables on steriods. The husks of corn, bulbs of garlic, the grapes, potatoes, tomatoes were among the largest and most luscious we had ever seen. The sheer cacophony of color was overwhelming. At La Vega market, we tasted the Chilean national drink - mote con huesillo - a sweet and refreshing nectarlike drink made with dried peaches and wheat husk. Upon leaving La Vega, we headed over to El Mercado Central, another bustlng market where you can admire fresh seafood and meats and check out small family owned restaurants that ring the market with greeters who beckon you to come in and try their local specialties. It's a great place to enjoy a typical Chilean lunch or dinner at a reasonable cost. We made frequent stops in interesting places like the Plaza de Armas, the Museo de Bella Arte, some of the parks and the business district. It was both an enjoyable and memorable morning spent in Santiago with our guides.

Our group took three tours from LBV and had a blast! "B" side walking tour is not to be missed and Peter as the guide is very knowledgeable about local history and politics. Also had great Valparaiso tour and the Wine and Bicycle tour! Leaders speak great English or "Amerrrican" English and have good sense of humour. Would recommend these tours to almost anyone.

The bike tour itself was great! An easy relaxing ride, but very informative and gives a really nice overlay of the city. Our guide for the bike tour was lifelong Santiago resident Ricardo, and he seemed to really enjoy sharing his knowledge of the current day city and it's past with the group. One of the managers for LBV, Mac, also organized an Andes Mtn hiking expedition for us through a different company, and that was phenomenal also. All in all, excellent tours, info, and people! (Plus we even stopped for free ice cream on the ride!).

My sisters and I went on the Bike and Wine tour with La Bicicleta Verde. It was a great excursion out of the city. We got to see vinyards that we otherwise would have never discovered. We also had lunch at a traditional restaurant. Our guide, Jose Miguel, spoke perfect English, was very engaging, and a pleasure to chat with during the tour. The pace was perfect -- not strenuous, but not too easy either. There was time for relaxing and sampling organic in the shade of the one of the vinyards and having delightful conversation with the winemaker. You're missing out if you don't take this tour!!! We went to another vinyard for a regular half day tour and it just wasn't the same.
