“Great stay, with minor caveats”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2014 via mobile

Of the many hundreds of hotels I've enjoyed the wonderful opportunity to experience, our stay in the suite of this hotel was among the top 2 or 3 most extravagant.

Pros:
- The suite could've easily been a luxury apartment
- The concierge was among the best we've had. They personally delivered wine to our door after we arrived, and left chocolates on our pillows while we were out!

Cons:
- The indoor pool was very small, which I hadn't noticed in photos
- The gym was fairly limited in its size, so the few people present needed to squeeze around each other

After a long flight it was most pleasing to check into our room.
The ground floor reservation staff were very pleasant, considering with flight times we had a 3hour wait for our room.
The room was of a very high standard, loved the beds.
Bathroom was very well appointed with excellent cosmetics on hard.

Room Tip: View on the main motor way and higher up.

I am quite amused to read some negative reviews here. I've been in Santiago many times, but this is only the second time I've made a reservation at Sheraton Santiago, but this time I was upgradeded to San Cristobal tower and it's a whole different experience, not because Sheraton is bad, but because the San Cristobal building is truly a luxury 5 star hotel.

The room was elegant, large, with separate tub and shower, and other amenities. Even when I stayed only 2 nights, the experience was good enough to enjoy the hotel, and everyone was friendly, diligent and very helpful.

Probably the only thing they need to improve are the restaurants at the lobby and next to the pool (which are shared with the Sheraton building) as the service didn't match the rest of the hotel. Everything else was perfect!

Reading the reviews here IU was expecting for less. This is a good hotel. Rooms are generous, comfortable and clean. A nice bath + shower bathrooms. Service by Claudia at the Sheraton lobby and pool was excellent, and so was the other Claudia at the 21st floor breakfast and lounge, with spectacular views of the city. We stayed twice, with the only mishap being a Brazilian receptionist who wasn't at her desk when we arrived, and wasn't too helpful when we finally found her. I'd stay here again though.

This hotel looks nice, but service is uneven. The fact that this property is next to its sister property ( Sheraton Santiago) degrades the level of service. You should also be aware of high prices and the total lack of management at the hotel. They have no idea how to handle issues, resolve them and make your stay up to pair for a Luxury Collection.

I'll never go again.. Try the Hyatt instead while in Santiago..

Room Tip: Ensure a high floor, stay away from suite ending with 71 as air conditioning does not work!!

We ended our cruise with Seabourn in Valparaiso, spent a couple of days in Vina de Mar before heading over to the San Cristobal Tower, “A Luxury Collection (NOT) Hotel”. We selected this property due to the fine experiences we have had in the past with the SPG “Luxury Collection” properties. We have stayed and prefer to stay at SPG properties throughout the world and this was by far the most disappointing of ANY SPG property, or comparable chain we have ever stayed at. We cut our losses and left Chile a day early.

Before getting into some specifics, I want to give them some benefit of the doubt due to the fact that their employees were on strike,
and like most unionists doing everything possible to make it miserable for the guests staying there. It is in my opinion that it is under
Circumstances like these that management has an opportunity to raise to the occasion. Nicole who was handling reception and check
us in was actually one person trying to make a positive difference. She personally brought us up a coffee maker with the necessary ingredients so we could have coffee in the morning in our room, room service was not available. It seemed the rest of the management team was AWOL, or perhaps tied up trying to negotiate their way out of the situation.

The really big issue for us was food service, or more correctly the lack of it. It just so happened that on Sunday Chile was having their run-off election and everything was closed so we went down stairs to see what the hotel had available. The only thing available was the pool side buffet which consisted of a $40.00 salad bar or $60.00 full buffet (approx.). Not wanting to eat this much, we asked if there were any other options. We were told that they would be opening up the grill for hamburgers, and hot sandwiches in about 20 minutes, so we had a drink at the pool side and waited, and waited and waited. Two hours later we got our sandwiches with buns as hard as a rock, took the meat out so we could eat it. It just seems that someone could have come up with some additional options such as a small soup, salad, finger sandwich station for those who just wanted something light to eat. With the different food islands they did have available for the $60.00 buffet, it does not seem that this should have been an issue.

There were other factors that just make the stay cumbersome, and it would have been considerate if someone could have sent us an email giving us a heads up on the strike and limited services. We would at least had the option of staying elsewhere, maybe that’s why we were not notified.

Dear Guest,

I am truly sorry to hear that your experience with us did not reach your expectations. As you mentioned, we were on strike by December, and we did our best efforts to handle the situation, however there were some services that were not available at that time.

I have stayed here twice - for a week in 2013 for a conference and again in December 2013 for just one night. It is a good hotel in the traditional style, very comfortable. Rooms are large and very well appointed. All staff I encountered were exceptionally polite, obliging and professional. The pool area is a real oasis. There are restaurants and bars in the annexed Sheraton Hotel and the total complex offers variety and al the facilities you will need. Strangely, most rooms and all the suites face the San Cristobel mountain, which is much less spectacular that the sweeping views of the city and the amazing Andes which can be seen from rooms on the other side. Ask for the Andes view!
