“Petite Hotel, with great location”
Reviewed 7 March 2009

We stayed at Hotel Orly pre-cruise for two nights. We were pleasantly surprised with the nice location and ease of checking in. Our room wasn't ready but we were given a free pisco sour to have while we waited. Overall, it was a lovely place to stay. Two computers to use and the linens/towels were fluffy and very white. Room was small, but when you are only staying a few nights, it doesn't really matter. Breakfast was so-so for us. Enough to keep us alive, but certainly not full. Location was good, we walked all over Santiago. Took the subway back and it was quite easy to navigate. We would stay there again.

Pretty boutique hotel, nice buffet breakfast each morning included, coffee, tea, juice with cookies and fruit all day, outdoor cafe in front, other restaurants on the same street, comfortable, quiet, clean air conditioned room, with windows that opened in the bath, internet available, money exchanges across the street, LAN office next door. A friend and I spent 5 nights here after a trip to Easter Island. We met people from all over the world who were staying at the same time. The Orly is convenient to easy sight seeing--turn right as you come out of the hotel, walk down the tree lined street with very nice substantial older homes at the end, cross the street to the park with the teleferico and funicular right in front. Not only is this trip fun to do, you can see Santiago from the top and end up 2 blocks from Neruda's house. If you go to the left as you leave the hotel, then right at the main street and walk 3-4 blocks you are at the entrance to Santiago's wonderful metro. The metro is quiet, clean, with fans misting the air, easy maps to make navigation easy--when you have trouble, station attendants are there to help--and the riders are courteous. You can do most of Santiago's tourist sites from the metro including several wine tours. It is inexpensive, easy, and fun.--no need to do costly organized tours. Also, in the hotel area there are other restaurants within walking or short taxi ride and don't forget all the ice cream places. Great ice cream and they are open until close to midnight! We learned this in checking out the neighborhood the night we arrived. The reception staff provided us with restaurant suggestions, gave us good directions, made reservations for us at the winery and for the airport van. Marco was the best!! You could tell he liked his job (and put up with our numerous questions and calls). Everyone was helpful, but some were quick and matter-of-fact. We decided to take the tour to Valparaiso and Vina del Mar with the tour group suggested via e-mail by the hotel. We knew we could probably do it on the train, bus, and taxi combination, but decided we would spend too much time and energy. While it was expensive and the lunch place not much good (the a la carte menu was high for the quality), we decided it still was the best plan. Other agencies were the same or higher.

Negatives were a refrigerator that did not work which we did not really need, but since it was there it would have been nice to have it working especially for cold drinks,.and a sink's plunger that would not lift. We noticed this right after checking in. A fellow came soon after we called, tried to fix it, but ended up taking it out and promised to bring it back the next day. At the end of our 5 night stay, it still had not been. Marco left messages each day for maintenance..

Stayed a week at this hotel. Overall very good experience. Location very good for seeing Santiago.can easy walk to local parks in evening. Good selection of restaurants nearby. Hotel breakfast is good but in general their restaurant food is poor. The three restaurants next door are all better.

It can get very busy with most people staying only 1 or 2 nights and in transit to other places.

We were unable to get into the Orly but were offered one of their apartments a few doors down the street. Fortunately we accepted their offer. The very large rooms were spotless with new fixtures, a king size bed, a very large flat screen TV in the bedroom and another in the living room. The cost in peak season was US$99.00 including a very nice breakfast which we had in the main hotel.

Stayed here for a few nights in Feb 09. The main plus point is the quite good food in the hotel street facing cafe. Apart from this it was very disappointing. There were security issues (a ladies bag was grabbed whilst in reception, our private guide said it was the second time this had happened), services broke down (shower, wifi, lift), the breakfast buffet was laid out by someone very confused and bizarrely, every day they ran out of forks! - most annoying of all the reception staff were slapdash. Example; inquiry, how much for a tour to Valparaiso. A question they must be asked almost on a daily basis. No pre printed tariff. Just an off the cuff figure plucked out the air. Speak to another receptionist later that day and get a different figure! Ask about departure times and it takes hours to ring someone.... eventually I booked directly. I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all. For me they are all over the place and clearly well past their best.

This small hotel in Providencia was just perfect. Friendly helpful staff, charming building with lovely public areas in a renovated fine old home. Coffee and tea are always available, and they put out a nice breakfast in the morning. Plus there is a nice cafe right outside the door, and others very close by. We took a taxi to the Plaza de Armas... too far to walk, but just a few dollars fare. If you have a late flight they'll store your luggage, and showers are available to freshen up before the flight. We were sorry we couldn't have stayed longer.

We loved the Hotel Orly with its pleasant staff and lovely ambiance. The breakfast room was indoors but had an outdoor atrrium which was charming and there was always a pot of tea or coffee brewing with cookies to keep you going throughout the day. We lucked out with this one. Learned about it in Fodor's and Trip Advisor.
