The plaza is central to alot of sightseeing areas but it is a very sad looking plaza, dirty and the dogs, so many of them!!!!! The building around the plaza are certainly lovely, The Cathedral, National Museum, post office is located there. The Tourist Information Centre is located there and has a lovely gift area with locally made souvenirs. Well worth visiting. They also have art for sale in the plaza and there were some striking pieces for sale. In the afternoons/evenings people come together in the plaza and play card, chess and just to chat. But the dogs were still there !!!

Plaza de Armas dates back to the mid-1500s. In the fashion of many Spanish cities, a block in the city's center was left as a parade ground. Surrounding the plaza are many interesting buildings and attractions, such as the cathedral and the national museum of history. A busy place, but what's the deal with so many dogs laying around looking half dead?

I came here to meet my tour guide and he explained quite a bit of the area. There is definitely things to do if you enjoy museums. Great place to people watch!

I was there for a really short ammount of time. I was on a walking tour of the city, and juust came from La Moneda.
But the place is really nice for pictures and for seeing some local culture and street artists.

We found this place so amazing. Men playing chess. People were singing, and protesting this and that, all the while soldiers standing by, looking rather amused themselves, whilst keeping an eye on everything. Outdoor restaurants and Patios. A very beautiful old church that is open to the public. Close to the presidential palace. Advisable to keep your belongings close, and not overdue it on the tourist type stuff, and stand out too much. People are friendly, but there are always opportunists in large crowds. We were fascinated by this place and highly recommend it.
