“Good but not great”
Reviewed 17 December 2011

For the art lovers this should be a definitiv stop, but for those only slightly interested and with a limited amount if time in the city, I would prioritise other attractions.
The museum itself is quite large with a wide assortment of artist from mostly Latin America. The art is quite diverse and interesting as well and as I had a couple of weeks in Santiago I am happy that I took the time to visit the museum.

“Modern and elegant museum in a pretty area”
Reviewed 17 October 2011

It has a modern and contemporary art collection of chilean artists. Cool paintings by Matta and a moving social critque in cardboard sculptures of Vicuña. Also, some bizarre art like in any modern/contemporary museum but still very fancy and interesting.

“Excellent venue for modern art”
Reviewed 16 February 2006

The Museo de Artes Visuales is a privately funded gallery showcasing modern art. It also has a small, but excellent, display of pre-columbian artefacts in an area by itself upstairs.

The design of the building is on several levels and very modern. Natural and artificial light have been used to show off the works at their best. It has been designed to show and compliment modern art and does this very well. There are exhibitions which change periodically and all are of a high standard.

The building is wheelchair-friendly with a small lift for those needing it and access ramps. There is a small shop on the ground floor which sells some nice gift items.

The cost of admission is very reasonable. This gives entry to both the gallery and the museum of pre-columbian artefacts.
