“Great for what you pay”

MAVI is a great quick walk-through museum- maybe 30 minutes tops. It is a great bargain for what they have to offer- it was 1000Chilean (basically 2$ US).

Cool architecture with a few interesting installations and a couple rooms of some interesting paintings. I really liked the flow of the building. It was pretty cool. Not a bad little gift shop at the front either. The staff was really nice and happily took a picture for us.

It is totally worth your time to quickly stop in here if you are in Lastarria.

“Small and focused”
Reviewed 25 June 2012

The museum is small, it resembles an art gallery with few but excellent exhibitions. The building is located in Lastarria, in a small plaza with some bars, cafés and an antique street fair. The Archaeological Museum is even smaller, in the third level of the building, but also worthy the visit.

“Complete waste of time”
Reviewed 15 May 2012

Having read a decent write up in the Lonely Planet (which has once again proved to be nearly useless, but that’s another story!) we were looking forward to visiting the Visual Arts museum.

Having now been I would recommend avoiding it.

2 scantily populated tiny floors of what can only be described as utter rubbish plus one room with some ancient pots from the archaeological side. Pathetic. And they have the cheek to charge entry for this!

“Beautiful modern museum”

Great shows of current Chilean and foreign artists. Interesting neighbourhood and good restaurants nearby, also Museo de Bellas Artes for historic Chilean painting.
