“Interesting Place, Great Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2014

This is by far the most modern/funky/hip hotel we stayed at during our south american travels. The location as everyone has mentioned is truly perfect. Right in front of a beautiful park, close to some of the hippest neighborhoods in Santiago and just 200 yards from the fine arts museum. The staff was well trained, spoke great english and the rooms were much cosier than you might expect with the uber-modern reception area.

I stayed here while working on an exhibition at the MNBA. The hotel has a solid 21st century James Bond/ business class vibe. I loved my little room. I had a great view out of the back onto Monijitas street and I enjoyed my morning coffees around the corner. I was very happy throughout my stay and that was in no small part because I was so comfortable at the hotel.

The Ismael 312 was good in some ways but not sufficient. The room is quite small. The location is indeed a good one, overlooking a park and one block from the art museum. A major problem I had was hot water - in the mornings I had to let the shower run for a few minutes, and at night I had to call the front desk and ask that they "adjust the system" - this took about 30 minutes. Overall, it appeared that it was not their normal practice to have hot water at night (not what I expect when paying US$174 per night). The hotel is generally lacking in business traveller services - e.g. printing, room service, all day restaurant. It does have valet/laundry service at a good price, and the wifi worked well. Breakfast was OK but limited- they did make me eggs upon request. During the day, there was only basic cafe type food and premade sandwiches. The room was modern with a nice bed and TV. The floor covering in the room was a type of thatched plastic - I would prefer a wood floor or carpet. Hotel workers were very nice, but lacked some basic hotel training e.g. one person said they didn't call me back "because I am very busy." The heating worked reasonably well, which was important in a cold winter week. Overall, this hotel is probably fine for a European tourist, but didn't work out for this American traveling on business.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the park have nice views, but the windows are thin and so these rooms also have noise...

We recently stayed for 3 nights and loved the Ismael. Beautiful clean modern room overlooking the park - the balcony is thoughtfully designed to maximise the outlook. The location is perfect, walk to the important sites with good restaurants almost next door. Breakfast was initially confusing, but easily sorted and delicious - choose five items and remember that the muesli and that fabulous yoghurt count as one! Enjoy at a table out the front in the sunshine. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Would choose to stay again.

Great modern and clean room, super comfy bed.
Staff were super friendly and helpful.
Excellent central location, with great restaurant within walking distance.
I highly recommend this funky boutique hotel.

My boyfriend and I stayed here at the end of our 6 week trip around south america. In short the location is perfect - right by the park, the rooms are gorgeous and the staff could not have been more helpful. I should also say that the bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in - a PROPER king size bed with soft cotton sheets and lots of pillows. All in all I could not recommend this hotel more highly.

Staff are very friendly and helpful, rooms are comfortable and location is really good. I needed assistance to track an item down that had been left on a plane and found the staff very willing to assist, and fortunately for me, the item was found and ready for collection next day at the airport. I would definitely stay there again. I highly recommend this hotel.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Call it Ismael 312. Some years ago — never mind how long precisely — having little in the way of design hotels, and nothing particular to interest the restless global nomad, the insular city of Santiago quietly took to the construction of a new crop of contemporary boutique hotels. Among the first fruits of this new wave of hotel construction is Ismael 312, a nine-story contemporary boutique hotel in an easy-on-the-eye modern minimalist style, just off the Parque Forestal in Santiago’s historic city center. Semi-transparent glass-walled bathrooms, flat-screen televisions, full-length windows — it’s clear Ismael 312’s proprietors have been paying attention to the interior-design conventions of the boutique-hotel world. This clean-lined look has quickly become the global standard, instantly rendering a million flowery bedspreads obsolete. Here, if you’re fortunate, you’ve got a view of the park from a private balcony; if not, you can content yourself with the pared-down simplicity of your room’s contemporary design. Don’t expect five-star extravagance — Ismael 312 is little more than a pied-a-terre. In this neighborhood, though, that’s more than enough — you’re surrounded by restaurants and picturesque old streets, not to mention the park with its selection of museums, perfectly placed to circumambulate the city of a dreamy Sabbath afternoon. ... more   less
