We really enjoyed Cirilo Armstrong hotel. Friendly staff, nice room (suite) and very well located. The price is convenient considering the high quality.

We get to Cerro Alegre after an hour of asking locals how to, the receiving at Valparaiso was nothing but good, the first contact with locals was an advice about how not to have your car stolen.
We were four, my parents, me and my brother, we have our reservation made since 2 or 3 months ago, but when we get there, they had overselled our rooms. We had to wait to see where were we staying, and considering that January is high season in Chile we wouldn't be able to find another place easily.
At the end we got our rooms (not those that were reserved, but others), but the next day, we had to change them! We decided to spend that night there and then we left. Our money was returned, but what should have been beautiful holidays were just a headache.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for four days and found it to be in a perfect location to explore the fascinating town of Valparaiso.

The rooms are very modern (we stayed in a loft room with a view of the city and water) and spacious. Service is excellent. Far from traditional, this hotel is "artsy" and casual, but well run, clean and worth every penny.

No parking. On the street. Recommend you do not bring a car. Rent them in town for the day.

Eat at Pasta y Vino and La Columbina.

Room Tip: Go for the view rooms, particularly the night view

There are probably no 'bad' views anywhere in Valparaiso, but this hotel, perched inventively upon a ledge on the side of a hill, boasted an amazing view of the colorful hills, the city below, and the Pacific in the distance. The charmingly rustic (concrete floors, open loft feel, modern amenities) rooms feature miniature wood-burning fireplaces and balconies, and the 24-hour staff at the front desk/bar are eager to help with anything from providing additional firewood to directions.
The location is up in the hills, near some great restaurants, shops and a dessert shop.
The only thing: dogs, both stray and domesticated, are everywhere in Valparaiso, and they are LOUD at night. I imagine this is the case everywhere in this city, not just at Cirilo Armstrong. If you're not used to it, definitely bring earplugs when visiting.

We had a wonderful stay at the Cirilo Armstrong. The hosts were friendly and helpful and answered all our questions about the area and suggested walks and best paths. The hotel is located near mini-markets, restaurants, and a tasty sweet shop. Our room was amazing with floor to ceiling windows, a small wood burning stove fireplace, upstairs loft bed, sparkling views, and patio. I love the lobby, and they serve coffee and alcohol until midnight with plenty of books and places to sit.

While I loved this place, I can tell you who this place is NOT for:

* Those needing TV's, full hotel amenities, and who dislike the concrete eco-friendly loft style rooms. The blinds also don't quite cover the full extent of the windows. While I loved this, some people might not care for the sunlight spilling in during the morning.

* Those who need absolute quiet. The lofts are concrete and the sound carries easily. There are also stray dogs that bark all night, so bring earplugs. However, from our time in Valapraiso, I didn't see ANY area that would be free of this issue. There are also dog droppings throughout the city, including near the hotel.

* Those who think included breakfast should offer a full menu of bacon, eggs, etc. It's a very tasty, but simple, breakfast. Cereal and fresh fruit and yogurt, local bread, OJ, and excellent coffee. They will serve it in your room for no extra charge, or you can sit in the lobby and meet guests.

I loved it! I would definitely recommend and stay again. But remember, anywhere in Valpraiso, bring earplugs.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the hillside.

We spent only one night there, but, enjoyed a lot. Valparaiso is very steepy and you spend the whole day climbing stairs after stairs and your body, in the end, needs, deserves good rest. At Cirilo Armstrong, you´ll be fine.
Our room was a kind of loft, two stories. With kitchen facilities and fire place. A balcony with a nice view of the neighbourhood.
Well decorated in a chic rustic style, the hotel itself is an attraction, although it is small, only 7 or 8 rooms.
The breakfast is served in the main hall or in your room, with no additional costs. We decided to have it at the hall: Fantastic home made food! You can watch the woman finishing baking the bread, cutting your very own fruits and brewing your coffee. The yoghurt is also home made.
The staff is very friendly and speak good English. We got very helpful information about how to reach the main attractions of the city.

We could not have been more pleased with Hotel Cirilo Armstrong, a one of a kind hotel. Our room had a kitchen and sitting area downstairs and a queen bed and bathroom up a narrow flight of stairs. The far wall was all window with a door to a private terrace. Other rooms are probably similar. Though minimally decorated, there were original art objects in the room and public area.

There are lots of dining opportunities in neighborhood.

The helpful staff spoke excellent English. I brought my ample continental breakfast back to our room, others dined in the lobby on coarse bread, butter, strawberry jam, corn flakes, avocado, yogurt, mixed fruit and coffee or tea.

It would be fun to fire up the wood burning stove in cold weather.

Perfect for us, I can't see how the hotel and steep neighborhood could accommodate visitors with mobility issues. Sorry I didn't take pictures before we cluttered the place up.
