This is definitely one of the friendliest hostels I´ve been to and the guys who run it can not do enough to help you. I had a fabulous time there and would recommend it to anyone. It is a small hostel so the fact there was only one shower wasn´t really a problem but to be completely perfect it could use another one.

My wife and I were recommended Jacaranda by 3 different people with rave reviews so we decided to give it a go and it did not disappoint at all.

We arrived at 7am having made a reservation for the wrong dates. Despite the owners not having slept till 5am they let us in with a warm welcome in to what is best described as a home, not a hostel. It had all the creature comforts a traveller craves for having been on the road for 8 months. Comfortable living room, nice garden with fresh herbs you can use for cooking, cable TV, Xbox, fully equipped kitchen, hot water and a toilet you can flush toilet paper down!

The 2 people who run the hostal are fantastic and extremely helpful. One night we fancied a BBQ so they offered to make one which was also amazing (one of the owners is a fantastic chef!). We were there for 3 nights and despite Valparaiso being a hotspot for nightlife we barely left the hostal preferring to drink the night away in the garden.

All in all there's nothing more you can ask for as a traveller from a hostel.

Gracias Gerardo y Christian por todos. Son muy amable!

Chris and Gerado are such friendly hosts. I felt like a friend visiting their home rather than a guest in a hostel. They gave us great info about Valpariso and things to do. The hostel is really cosy with great kitchen facilities, a beautiful garden and outdoor areas with a bbq and herb garden available to guests. The guys will even show you how to light the bbq Chilean style! The location is also perfect.

This place is just great, we planned on staying 4 nights and ended up staying 7. The hostel is in a really great area of town just a short walk (or ascensor ride!) from the main sights. The house is so comfortable, the beds are great and communal areas that make you feel right at home. It's not the facilities that make this place though the hosts are just awesome you could never tell they have only just started out, its like they were born to run a hostel. We've been treated to BBQ's, great breakfasts (Gerado is a trained chef!) & nights out in the town. It really is like staying with close friends.

We were absolutely blown away by Hostal Jacaranda. After almost 8 months of travelling through Central & South America, it was such a delight to come to stay in Valparaiso with Latin America's best hosts: Gerado & Christian. Nothing was too much trouble. Dorms are very comfortable, spacious & everything brand new (and prices were very good for their equivalent in Chile hostels). There is also a private room available. Gerado is a chef by trade so if you sign up for breakfast (approx. USD$4), you're in for a treat. The guys even cooked a big BBQ for one of the other guests birthdays- including cocktails, choripan & parilla, even special dishes for me (I don't eat meat). So good. Even cocktails and canapes appeared a couple of nights to our great surprise and pleasure! The location itself is very central- right in the middle of the UNESCO listed area. The house is recently refurbished, very nice decor & comfy couches to veg out and watch a movie in (lots of DVDs & cable). Kitchen, wifi, etc etc. Outside there is a garden with fresh herbs, lettuces & vegies which you are welcome to, as well as the ever growing colourful flower garden. It's not a massive hostel but very social, so you can come to relax or go out and enjoy the nightlife of Valpo.
Can not speak highly enough of this place and of these two guys- we wish them all the best for the future! Thanks for having us. :)
