“Must see in Valparaiso”
Reviewed 15 July 2014 via mobile

Pablo Neruda's home is beautifully placed in Valparaiso. You have a gorgeous view of the port. They have many fascinating artifacts from his life including original manuscripts. You are provided with an audio tour that guides you through the house.

“Modern Chilean history asks more questions”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

Chile's recent history (Allende, Pinochet, et al) is a little confusing, especially to outsiders. There is still disagreement on what happened and why, and yet the victors wrote a version of history that is unusually sympathetic to the vanquished. Pablo Neruda was one of the vanquished, and yet his home stands as a monument to his vision and influence (not to mention that it has a million dollar view, so he wasn't one of the downtrodden poor). That he was a prolific poet is lost on me since I don't do Spanish (and my favorite poems are vulgar limericks), but I got that he lived a full life of creativity, pleasure, friendship, and conviction. That's a good reason to visit his house and see 1970's Chile through his lens.

“Well worth a detour”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

A little way out of the centre, but worth the effort. An eccentric and eclectic museum full of history, art and politics. I loved it!
