“Good value”
Reviewed 13 March 2013

Friends and I stayed at The Brighton for four nights in February 2013. There's a great deal to like about the place. The location with it's views from a great outdoor patio are wonderful. In general, the staff were really good, helpful & attentive. The rooms were clean and the rate, including breakfast was competitive. My room was really tiny, but with a shift of the furniture, I was able to prevent hitting my head on the sloping ceiling! The only issue was the noise outside at night. The weather was warm, and with my pillow close to the open window, I was awoken too often to a chorus of dogs (there are lots of them roaming the streets) and/or neighbourhood hostel guests. A fan and the white noise it provided would have probably solved my challenge. To be fair, I did
not complain to the hotel and by no means would I fault the hotel. My friends staying in another room were not bothered by the noise. It was a small price to pay for all the other great benefits.

We stayed one night at the Hotel Brighton after a cruise. We arrived early and our suitcases were stored safely until our room was ready. We explored the Old City, then returned to find our cases already in the tiniest room we have ever stayed in. It was, however scrupulously clean if a little worn. There was no closet and we had to put the cases on the bed to open them. Since we were only staying one night that wasn't a big deal.

We decided we would like to eat dinner on the patio to enjoy the spectacular view, so we discussed the menu with one of the day staff who spoke good English. Unfortunately, when we came to order dinner that evening, there was no one available who spoke English. Luckily another guest was able to help, but we were disappointed to find that the items we had intended to order were not available and only the more expensive choices could be had. If we had not been tired after a day of sightseeing we would have gone elsewhere, but we stayed reluctantly.

Breakfast the next day was fine, although the orange juice had an artificial taste.

If we had not had the bad experience with dinner I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, but as it is, I would say stay there but eat somewhere else.

We had been here about a year before and were marvelled by the friendliness of staff at Brighton and the possibility to have the Breakfast delivered to our room under the roof giving us a great breakfast with sea view. Partly because of this breakfast, we had decided to return. Unfortunately, staff this time told us that having breakfast at the room was no longer possible. Also the good natural fruit juice had been replaced by a nectar from the supermarket. People were much less willing to help. When there was an event in the bar downstairs in the evening they told us we had to pay for the entry even though we were hotel guests. Even though still the Brighton has one of the best views in Valparaiso - at least for us it lost a lot of its magic. So my review goes down - from 5 to 3 stars.

Room Tip: Try to get the room with the balcony or the one under the roof.

Hotel Brighton has been a great place to stay in Valparaiso. I've been twice and both times happy with the rooms. It feels like an old house thats been sectioned into rooms with bathroom tucked into odd spaces. Lots of different colored wallpaper, staircases in different directions, view from all rooms, cozy beds, a cat who lives there and a fabulous outdoor patio to lounge and get a great view of the city. Brighton is literally perched on the edge of Cerro Concepcion and a great spot to start the wanderings of Valparaiso's curvy artsy streets. One Friday night we caught music at the restaurant here, it was packed and the tradition music was so fun, lots of people sang along. Happy hour (2 for 1) is also very nice, plus they serve a good breakfast. Brighton fits this city well and is a great value!

This hotel is unique and not comparable with any other city-hotelif you love Valpo then you'll love this small hotel. By the way you can also have lunch on the terrace and enjoy the view over Valparaiso.

The Brighton is just in the right place for the most attractive barrios, galleries art & restaurants, and it has great views from the terrace. Although it feels a little tired, the rooms are comfortable & clean. It is friendly & there was live music in the bar/restaurant

What a quaint, friendly unique little hotel. Spent a few days in Santiago and then arrived here. Frederico was a charming, accommodating host and supplied us with a bottle of wine as soon as we arrived! The area was wonderful - full of arty graffiti and alluring side streets atop the mountain. The hotel has a wonderful restaurant which provides the best view you can have of the harbor and town below. My room had a little balcony as well. Very old hotel with cracks and warts but full of charm! Beware of the college kids who stay up all night partying at a plaza area down the hill - they can be noisy! But this just added to the ambiance of this adventure! (Brazilian drummers contribute as well!) All the staff were great and helpful!

Room Tip: Room X is the only one with its own balcony - very spacious
