“The quirkiest, coolest place in Chile”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

Cerro Concepción is one of the prettiest places I have ever been, but it is also very quirky. The rickety old ascensor takes you up the hill into lots of interweaving, narrow streets splattered with graffiti, murals and colour everywhere you go. There are lovely restaurants with terraces to sit out on as well as lots of hotels and hostels. The market is one of the better ones I have seen in Chile, selling more authentic jewellery and crafts. The hill joins to Cerro Alegre which is great for having lunch or an ice-cream. Around every corner is a colourful surprise and you can happily spend all afternoon wandering through the alleys and streets!

“This is why visitors come to Valparaiso”
Reviewed 7 May 2014

The flat part of Valparaiso around the docks etc. has little to offer, but take off one of those inconspicuous narrow allleys, grab a 100 yr-old funicular for a 40 seconds ride ( a few pesos) and you emerge in a new multicoloured world. Most travel books, the tourist office etc. have walking tours through this colourful wonderland. Everything is coloured - homes, steps, walls - and very well spent 3-4 hours. You simply can't miss this.

Great place to explore and take photos. Full of tourists, but still charming. Lots of cafes and restaurants.

“The Heart of Valparaiso”
Reviewed 14 April 2014

This area feels like the heart and soul of Valparaiso - cafes, small independent galleries, and above all, fabulous street art.

“Just wander around”
Reviewed 12 April 2014

This is a lovely place to enjoy German, French and British architecture as well as ride the oldest funicular in Valparaiso - which opened 1883.

Wear good walking shoes as some streets have large cobblestones.
