We made a booking with Ibis, Valparaiso in November 2016 and requested a room on the sixth floor with a sea view. On arrival on 30 January 2017, we were told that the Hotel was unable to provide us with a room overlooking the Sea which was a disappointment. We received an interior room with a widow which overlooked the building and with a faint view of the Port. The room was clean yet minimalist. Just a couple of towels, two tiny bars of soap and a plastic cup! The room had a safe which was good. The Hotel reduced the price which was quoted by six US dollars saying that we had been overcharged. We appreciated that. The Staff at Reception were nice. We did not have our breakfast at the Hotel but rather at the Melbourne Café at Plaza Sotomayor which is a hop step and a jump from the Hotel. We also availed ourselves of the Supermarket nearby. Be sure to have a meal at the Restoran Capri nearby which receives very good reviews. Regrettably we were unable to have a meal there because it was closed on Monday afternoon.
We travelled with TUR bus (Salida no. 6) from the International Airport in Santiago to Pajaritos and then took another TUR bus with semi cam (reclining seats) to Valparaiso. It was so easy. From the Bus Station in Valparaiso, we took a taxi to the Hotel. We also made arrangements with the same taxi driver to meet us on the following day at eleven o'clock which he did punctually. We saved ourselves a pile of US dollars and both trips to Pajaritos and Valparaiso were safe and comfortable.
Ibis Valparaiso is a far cry from Ibis Bangkok and Ibis Seoul. Yet, it is a good hotel to stay at for one or two days. In our case, it was prior to a cruise on the Zaandam on 31 January.

Room tip: Expect not to receive the room you wish to have, especially if it overlooks the waters.

Hotel is good location for seeing main sites of Valparaiso. Very basic amenities. Bathroom has 2 small bars of soap, 2 towels, 2 small bottles of shampoo and hair dryer. Rooms are spacious and air conditioning with climate control works great. Our bathroom floor wasn't cleaned very well, grout between tiles were filthy. Can't beat the price though. Picked this hotel because it has air conditioning and was close to where the cruise ship docks however it turns out you must first go through security check 2 miles away. Cruise ship docks at a pier also used to load/unload shipping containers. It is not safe to walk through shipyard so we were bused to a security facility which is where you turn in your declaration document and pick up luggage. There is a private taxi counter just before you exit. Cost $15 USD for the 2 mile ride to IBIS. Public taxi is probably cheaper but you must board another bus which takes you to a location about 1/2 mile away where taxis wait. Main train station is next to hotel. For less than a few dollars you can take the train to Vina Del Mar which is much nicer. In front of hotel is bus stop. You can also take but to Vina Del Mar but takes longer due to traffic. We opted for a private car which we got through the hotel. Cost $200 USD for 8 hour ride through Vina Del Mar, Concon, and Caleta Horcon with English speaking driver. Everything can be negotiated with the driver regarding price and places to go.

We chose this hotel for two reasons: price and proximity to cruise port. It was a good choice for one night. We were able to check-in early and head right out into the streets of Valparaiso. My wife wasn't too keen on the port locale and the lack of local color, but that isn't why we stayed here. The room was clean with very sparse amenities. The view out to the water helped with the feeling of where we were, a functional port. Sunset viewing was looking right out our window. It is close to the plaza where our pre-planned walking tour was to take place. We didn't have the breakfast or any other food/drink that was available.Taxis were available to take anyone right to the port if needed. Next time I would consider staying up higher in the hill zone and spending a little more. What also make our decision to stay here is that there is a safe in the room, and some of the hotels in the hills don't have one.

Room tip: Try to get a view of the port

Checked into the Ibis for a couple of days pre cruise. The hotel arranged a car to pick me up from the airport in Santiago and it ran very smoothly, the driver was waiting outside the customs hall and was very polite and friendly. Arrived at hotel at 3.30pm to find a large line to check-in which starts strictly at 3pm. Fortunately I had the foresight to checkin online which meant I was seen straight away and handed room keys to my preferred room. The receptionists and staff at the hotel are great, very helpful and polite although english for some is definitely not their first language they are very willing to help work through the language.

There was some previous comment about the rooms being noisy on the port side however I found that there is very good soundproofing on the windows and that made all of the difference when they were closed. The room was basic but comfortable and a good size.

I would definately recommend the hotel. Great position beside a supermarket, food hall, access to the lifts up the hills and also the metro. Im glad I changed hotels from one up the hill to this better location.

Room tip: checkin on line before arriving.

We appreciated our access to Metro, grocery store and main square, very close by.

The hotel, was efficient kept our bags until, check in, 3.00, no flexibility here, but it worked out for us.

User friendly rooms, fairly good breakfast with a variety.

Only frustration that there is not a common room to play cards or meet up with friends.

Otherwise it was. Rey good value for us.
