“South America refuge”

My wife and I were spending a couple of months in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. We were traveling alone, beginning in Buenos, and on a circle route ending back in Buenos Aires.
After a lot of hiking, among and on the various types of terrain, dodging ice bergs and glaciers we were looking forward to some "down time"
This precious little hideaway on one of the many hills of Valparaiso provided the ambience we needed without being isolated.
The staff made us feel as welcome as the comfortably layed out rooms. The unique understated elegance of the building was as charming as the neighborhood, which is so perfectly located relative to the funicular to the lower port levels.

We would highly recommend this charming spot.

The best hotel in Valparaiso witha great location. The Hotel Somerscales is a small charming hotel high up on the hills of Valparaiso. You're near many restaurants, shops, bars and markets for a quick pick-me -up after touring and climbing Valparaiso's hills all day.

We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The hotel is filled with antiques and besides having a computer you can use you can also relax in the sitting area reading one of the many books
on the area's history, art etc.

We stayed in a room on the 3rd floor with it's own terrace and a postcard view of the harbor. Afternnon drinks or breakfast on your terrace is a great way to soak up Valparaiso's ambience.

You can also linger over breakfast in their antique filled dining room (which we did) imagining what it would be like to live here if it was your own home.

We'd like to thank the Hotel Somerscale's staff for a memorable stay and hope to return soon.

We felt a little disconcerted when the taxi driver in 'downtown' Valparaiso hadn't heard of the Thomas Somerscales. However, we were safely delivered and after a little confusion about our booking (the hotel's email system, they said, had been a bit erratic) we were given a lovely room on the first floor at the front of the house.

The ambience at Thomas Somerscales is very restful - it's a lovely house, furnished with carefully chosen antiques, though it felt very fresh and light. The staff are incredibly helpful, though some are limited in their English skills (or, rather, we are very limited in our Spanish skills!)

We'd recommend Cafe Turri for drinks on the terrace overlooking the port of Valparaiso - and we returned for a very impressive evening meal (not particularly cheap).

We stayed one night at the Thomas Somerscales hotel. The house is beautiful, spotless and very well decorated and maintained. Our stay was comfortable and the staff is friendly and helpful. We arrived around lunch time and our allocated room was not ready yet so they gave us another, better, for the same price.
We paid 55,000 CLP (approx USD 90) for a double room including breakfast, they have a variety of rooms and prices with different views and sizes.
Location in Cerro Alegre is good, the area is nice and there are quite a few restaurants around.
