Excellent small hotel on a quiet street. English spoken. Very good service. Very pleasant gardens and patios with a spectacular view over the city and harbor. Highly recommended over all.

Sorry the travel agent from Florida had a bad experience. Maybe he should stick to Holiday Inns. We had THE most delightful time. The hotel is a restored house, once the home of the Dutch consul I seem to remember. It was built around the 1880s. Of course the old wooden floors and stairs creak a bit. Of course it's not fully sound insulated. And of course the aircon is of the "open the window" kind. If you need ALL mod-cons do go stay at a Holiday Inn. But this place has been beautifully, tastefully, thoughtfully and lovingly refurbished. We had a generous back bedroom upstairs - one out of only nine rooms. It had a lovely bathroom crafted out of local stone and every modern comfort (including wi-fi but as, I said excepting aircon). The breakfast room just takes your breath away with it's views across the City and harbour and the bay. And this was the very best breakfast we had in the whole of South America. Divine. The 'honour bar' was an extra delight. The manager and staff were THE most welcoming, helpful and friendly you could ever wish to meet. It was a joy just to sit on the patio in the gorgeous flower filled gardens overlooking, their small swimming pool and the grand views while sipping chilled Chilean Sauvignon Blanc from the nearby Central Valley. Not cheap but well worth it.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Do try and get one at the front upstairs. Very generously sized and fabulous views. You'll pay a...

I am a licensed travel agent, have traveled all my life and have stayed in countless hotels, but I have never been as disappointed as here. I made the reservation by calling the hotel from the US to make sure they guarantee a certain room upstairs. Being upstairs was critical to us, because it's an old house and we needed quiet and good sleep. When we arrived, the hotel's paperwork showed the correct room upstairs, but our room had been given to other guests and the only room remaining was downstairs. The employee admitted that a mistake had been made. It is an old house with very old wooden floors that are not sound insulated in any way, so you hear every word and every step above. The guests upstairs were up all night, so we got absolutely no sleep despite earplugs. It was horrible. The next morning, we complained to the manager, who promised a full refund of what they had charged our credit card, but that refund never arrived. When I emailed her to remind her, she refused a refund. Definitely do not stay here!

Room Tip: Definitely only upstairs, but they may put you downstairs anyways and then you're up all night.

My husband and I spent two nights here before going off on a cruise around Cape Horn. What a delightful surprise this hotel was! Our room (8) had a stunning view of the bay, with two large windows. An enormous amount of effort has gone into the decor throughout the hotel - really tasteful, and in keeping with the style and age of the building. The service was particularly attentive, and the breakfast lovely, both in content and setting! The hotel itself is located in a terrific part of Valparaiso, really historic area, loads of restaurants, little shops, galleries nearby. I'm not really into writing reviews but this place was so good, one of the best small hotels we've ever stayed in, that I felt it deserved a shout.

My daughter and I stayed here recently on a side trip from Santiago. We arrived quite early and the room wasn't ready, so the friendly manager supplied us with refreshing glasses of Chilean wine and we relaxed on the lovely shaded multi-level terrace outdoors. What a wonderfully personal greeting, and it just got better and better...the room was spacious, elegant, and clean; the view over the Valparaiso bay was one of the best in the city; the included breakfast was delicious. The room wasn't air conditioned, but the large windows open and the ocean breeze was cooling. This intimate, historic boutique hotel is in an elevated part of the city on a quiet street, and we walked everywhere easily to explore many shops, restaurants, and colorful passageways. There are parts of Valparaiso that seem pretty "sketchy", as my daughter would say, but this area felt safe and so interesting. We wished we'd stayed more than one night. Pricey but definitely worth it!

Room Tip: We felt that the expansive view of the bay and city was worth the extra price of the room, but didn...

The hotel itself is very nice, with modern amenities. We had a room with very tall ceilings and nice sea view on the second floor. The staff is nice and helpful. The veranda also has nice sea views. The breakfast didn't have much variety, though the omelettes, ham and cheese were high quality. The coffee was awful, but that is everywhere in Chile.

Now to the negatives, and, for me, they are all related to the area. The city of Valparaiso is rather rough, and is covered in graffiti and dog feces, the same is true about the more artsy neighborhood on the hills. There are many small restaurants, but none of them qualify for more than 2-3 stars. There is construction and noise everywhere 24x7. The smell of the garbage and dog droppings add to the ambiance.

If you are looking for some resort time, stay in Vina del Mar.

Room Tip: Look for a sea view on the second floor.

This is a real gem of a hotel with a great staff. Upon our arrival, Rodrigo and Barbara were very welcoming and even arranged a city tour and transfer to Santiago Airport to replace arrangements I had made that fell through. Their lunch and dinner recommendations were perfect (Cafe Tutti and La Conception). The hotel is beautiful, I could have spent days on the terrace drinking Claudio's Pisco Sours or wine from the honesty bar and gazing out to sea. The breakfast was great - a bit more than the normal "continental" and filling. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. You just can't beat the location and the view....well worth the money and if you do go to Valparaiso stay an extra day or two as the city is incredible and will draw you in.

Room Tip: Ask for a harbor view.
