I had the great pleasure of staying at the Gervasoni Hotel for 6 nights from 4th October while in Valparaiso to attend a wedding. This wonderful boutique hotel was recommended by my travel agent and I couldn't have been happier. It is very charming and comfortable, beautifully manintained and is ideally situated. The staff were great, spoke English, and were always very friendly and helpful, even offering to go out and buy wedding paper for me. The hotel is perfectly located on Cerro Concepcion which is the older world heritage listed area of Valparaiso. There are lots of galleries, interesting buildings and great restaurants in the immediate vicinity of the hotel and I loved walking around and exploring the area. The Hotel Gervasoni overlooks the harbour and as well as the rooms having great views, there is a beautiful sunny terrace where I had breakfast and lunch which overlooks the port. The hotel also has a restaurant highly recommended by the locals. Breakfast was included and was really good with a selection of juices, fruits, cereals, breads, cakes, cheese, cold meats and scrambled eggs with ham. It was very nice conversing with other guests and the staff while enjoying breakfast on the terrace. I had room 11 which had a very comfortable king size bed, lovely period furnishings, good bathroom and a nice view of the harbour with balcony. The Concepcion funicular is right outside the front door of the hotel on Paseo Gervasoni which is one of the main viewing points of Valpairaso and provides ready access to the port and main part of town. Make sure you do the free walking tour of Valparaiso (Tours4tips) starting at Plaza Sotomayor, a short walk from the bottom of the Concepcion funicular and take a boat tour of the harbour. There is also ready access to the bus system and the metro for an excursion to Vina dal Mar
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The Hotel is the fruit of lengthy restoration work to recover one of the homes of greatest cultural value in the hills of Valparaiso, measuring more than 11,000 square feet. This house was built by European immigrants circa 1870. The imposing building, now transformed into a boutique hotel, uniquely portrays, through its welcoming setting, the lifestyles of the generations of families that lived on the hill. The house’s architecture takes you back in time to the mode of life at the end of the 19th century. Luxury refurbishings concordant to the comforts of a five-star hotel interweave discreetly throughout the patrimonial air in the house, creating just the right cross between tradition and modernness. ... more less
