“Great Price for Unbeatable Location”
Reviewed 15 February 2010

Just returned from a Valentine's gateaway with girlfriend to Quito and had a lovely stay in nu house hotel. We got an incredible price at the hotel website and were more than happy with everything we got. We stayed at one of the suites and had a bottle of wine waiting for us (on the house - not sure if it was just for Valentines Day) - nice touch. The hotel is very modern and hip with a very cool wood facade. Although the lobby is not too big it was more than adequate compared to other boutique hotels we have stayed. The suite was well sweet - nice and large living area and balcony, good size bedroom with a very comfortable bed and cool stone bathroom with a jacuzzi overlooking the city. The service from beginning to end was excellent. The front desk was able to arrange a few sightseeing trips and the hotel driver did a nice job showing us the city. The colonial part is a "must see" - filled with beautiful churches and colonial buildings. Overall, the hotel was great but I do have to agree with most comments here that the thing that sets this hotel from the others without a doubt is the LOCATION!!! It is right in the heart of the entertainment district of Quito. Well right on a very nice plaza filled with restaurants, cafes, shops, etc. We actually attempted to leave the area at night to find a nice place to eat but after an hour of searching and not finding anything interesting we ended right back in the plaza. The options in Quito are clearly concentrated here. We ate at 2 of the hotels restaurants which were very cool - one was modern with live music and a live dj and the other was very latin and hip. Both offered a long menu with great options. The drinks in these restaurants were cheap too like $4-5 per cocktail and a happy hour that made these drinks $2 - great places. The location is also very close to the many tourists places - it took us like 10 minutes to get to the colonial part of the city, 15 minutes to the mountains etc. I would definately recommend this hotel for anyone seeking comfort and style and wants to be close to everything.

Recently arrived at Quito with friends and decided to stay in nu house as we read recommendations here. We chose nu house primarily for its location and we were not disappointed. We were actually surprised at how great the hotel was. The staff was very friendly, the hotel has a very cool and modern design, the rooms were very comfortable and overall it was actually more than what we expected - some reviews don´t do the hotel justice. I stayed in room 504 - a great suite. But as I said before our main reason for staying here was the location. The hotel is definitely in the hottest part of town. The hotel sits right on a very nice, clean and from what I saw very safe plaza. The area is filled with restaurants, lounges etc but we found no need to go beyond the plaza since it pretty much offers everything. The hotel has three restaurants but our favorite was Azuca Beach - a beach concept restaurant with an actual part with sand. Great drinks and awesome food. If you are looking to be in the coolest part of Quito this is definitely your hotel. Oh yeah and its a cab ride to the colonial city in Quito which is a ¨must ¨ see but unfortunately dies down at around 5pm. Moving to Peru and hopefully will have similar experiences there.

We have used Nu House as our base for the last 3 weeks of travel in Ecuador. We have been in rooms 308, 310 and 311. If you want a great outlook any of the rooms that overlook the square (all of the above) are great. However, the downside is you simply cannot shut out the noise no matter how hard you try. Some rooms, like 311, have double glazing and a double closeable window. Other rooms have only a single closeable window. Either way if you want quiet take a room at the back of the hotel with no outlook.

The only other gripe is that there is no in room cooling. We asked reception and they offer a little fan if you are hot.

Overall we would recommend the hotel for location and facilities.

Breakfast is ample in Q bar but don't expect a huge american breakfast. Cereal, fruit, toast and some eggs and meat...thats about it.

Second trip to Ecuador in 6 years and things have changed dramatically. Hotel options have improved and this hotel has definately added a little edge to the offerings. I normally prefer smaller boutique hotels over large chain hotels. Before there were no options. This hotel offered pretty much everything I expect from a modern boutique hotel - the suite was large, nice size living area, great bedroom and really good shower. But the BEST thing about the hotel is the LOCATION. It is the best location I saw for a hotel in a very trendy area of Quito. I stayed in a top floor suite so was not bothered by any noise but not sure about the lower floors. Didn't make it for breakfast - so cannot comment there. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for those seeking to be in walking distance of restaurants, coffee shops and the nightlife in Quito. It is definitely a fun hotel to go to. I do recommend the suite - worth the price for comfort.

The hotel is in a great location. The rooms and bathrooms are also very good. Then it goes bad. The breakfast is truly dreadful. The welcome drink at Azuca was horrible - flat cke in the cuba libre - when I mentionned this they apologized and brought another (also pretty poor) and then tried to charge me 7$!! On checking out they tried to charge me for a beer from the mini bar that I had not had and 1$ per night extra tax when I had been told that all taxes were included in the rate I paid. Whilst the area is bustly the food in most placs is poor. Do not go for a gastronomic experience.

Stayed here on New Year's Day and left early next morning. Rooms were nice, but very noisy. Since there is no A/C, one needs to open the window to cool things down at night. Street noise from this fun, active area is loud and late.

On the other hand, the staff was helpful and the breakfast was quite good (we left for an early morning flight and they offered to prepare a box breakfast, too). The functional look of the room still allowed for creature comforts, such as the good showers mentioned in the previous reviews. Excellent restaurant around the corner is La Boca de la Lobos (sp?).

Recently stayed in nu house hotel as part of a two week Ecuador/Colombia trip with friends. We stayed here because of the raving reviews we received in here and from other guests. To sum it up, we had an incredible experience. The location is by far the best in the city. It is right in the heart of the trendy city district. It is filled with great restaurants, bars, coffee shops, etc. The hotel sits right on a beautiful plaza. On the saturday we were there, there was a local market on the plaza. The rooms are very pleasant with a modern and stylish look - plasmas, spa-like bathrooms.... One of the best showers I have ever had, ever. Since we did hear that there may be a lot of noise in the rooms we asked the desk for quiet rooms in the back. They actually informed us that they had recently upgraded the rooms with new windows. We had rooms facing the plaza and am happy to report that we all slept like babies. Not sure if all the rooms have been finished - so request one of the new rooms. The hotel has a few restaurants but our favorite was Azuca Beach (which is in top of Azuca Bistro on the second floor). Azuca beach is a concept restaurant with an actual sand area, great beach drinks, ceviches, etc to make you feel like you are on the beach. This is crazy cause you do feel like you are in a beach on top of a mountain. Quito is I think over 30,000 feet above sea level. The ambiance, the service, everything about this restaurant was great. There is obviously a lot of good taste and imagination in all the things the hotel offers. I would recommend this hotel to anyone planning a visit to Quito. The convenience of having everything so close to the hotel is great. Especially for us, who were visiting for the first time.
