This has to be the best restaurant for people-watching in Quito.....the food's pretty good too! We were there @ Easter when there were processions and so much to see, so it was fantastic to be able to sit comfortably and safely inside this café and enjoy the view. The food is good without being anything special......cooked ceviche was not what we expected and the serves were huge.....had to cancel one of our orders once we saw the size of them. The staff were friendly and helpful and we would return here again.

We stopped in here for an afternoon snack, based on TA reviews. For dinner/dates/special occasions it might be worth splurging, but for appetizers or something light, you can get twice as much for the price elsewhere. What Plaza Grande offers is Western-style service, English-speaking staff, and a very upscale atmosphere in the literal heart of Quito's Old Town. So, you may not be going there for the meal anyway. We had empanadas and humitas that were, as with a lot of Ecuadorian food, deeply fried and pretty heavy, but well prepared and presented. Can't comment on the rest of the menu but for two appetizers and a soda, we paid $18.

although it has an upscale coffee shop atmosphere, it is relaxed and some of the food is memorable. The ceviche is not to be missed. Unlike Peruvian ceviche, the seafood is cooked first so there are no health concerns. It is served almost as a soup, the base varying with the type of fish - the crab was our favorite - and topped with popcorn and deep fried corn kernels which add a wonderful saltiness and crunch. The potato soup was wonderful too. Finally, do not miss the ice cream dessert for an experience you will not soon forget.

Portions are huge, so order accordingly

Our Group of 7 persons went there to celebrate a friend's birthday.Being close to our Hotel, we looked forward to eating here based on other reviews. We were well rewarded.
A very warm welcome by the staff and we were nicely seated. The waiters were helpful and patient with our orders seeing that we were Asians! Then, some free tidbits as we waited for our food, which did not take long. Our first courses were nice, but the "ceviche" was a tad disappointing, compared to the super-excellent ones we had on a Galapagos yacht. But seafood salad was superb!
And more freebies came with the first courses!
The mains were all great--steaks, chicken etc! But the icing on the cake (literally) came later, and they brought out a little cake with a Spanish "Happy Birthday" for our friend. ( They got hint of the event!). And all got a little special cocktail with that! And all complimentary.
The service was really warm indeed and a wonderful occasion to remember for us!
