“Only place to stay”

I simply wouldn't go to Quito unless I could stay at Rumiloma. The experience and our time with Amber the proprietor and her staff made our trip. The vistas from the room and restaurant are breathtaking, the rooms incredible with beautiful antiques, and the service impeccable. Can't say enough great things about this place, and looking forward to their next venture and my next visit.

Room Tip: cathedral room is amazing

My 2 friends and I are staying here now for a long weekend in the cathedral suite. This hotel could not be more charming, with a staff that is beyond friendly and can't do enough for you. Having just toured some of the other great hotels in this city (Casa Gangotena and Hotel Plaza Grande), I cannot speak highly enough about this hotel. Amber, the awesomely quirky and fun proprietor has single handedly created a mountain paradise. She not only personally greeted us at the front door, but has practically bent over backwards to accommodate all of our travel needs. From transport from the airport, to last minute tours (don't be stupid like us... book in advance!), she has personally attended to our every need!

The decor is original with an eclectic mixture of antiques from all around the world. I am reminded of Richard Branson's Casbah Tamadot in the Atlas mountains, full of unique and interesting (and very well-appointed) odds and ends. The location overlooking the city is not only breathtaking, but a sanctuary from the chaos of the city. The staff will make sure you do not feel isolated, as they will arrange transport for you at any time. Frankly, some of the most amazing aspects of this hotel are the location, the view, and the tranquility (llamas and peacocks included)! If you want a unique hotel experience, I highly recommend this hotel! 5 stars in paradise!!!

We needed a hotel in Quito after our trip to the Galapagos and stayed at Rumiloma for the night before our flight back to the states. The hotel is perched way above the city and offers the most amazing views of the city without the noise of the city. A fabulous re-entry experience. The beauty of the surroundings, both interior and exterior are luxurious. A must see attraction for anyone visiting Quito. The service and the food make this hotel a 5 star experience!

We made our way through the city, high up into the mountains on narrow cobblestone streets as the rain drummed onto the tin roofs. The little yellow taxi sputtered to a stop at the highest ascension, and off we went on foot through the cool mist. At the peak, we were greeted by llamas, peacocks, and Tibetan flags gliding off the terra cotta roof. As the heavy wooden doors opened into Rumiloma, opera filled the space as the sun unveiled the city and the expansive valley below. The hacienda is truly a haven in the mountains floating just above the reach of the hectic city.

The attention to detail is noticeably heartfelt, and as breathtaking as the grounds. The rooms are incredibly decorated by the keen eye of the owner, interior designer Amber Freire. We received fantastic attention from the manager and the entire staff, rivaling service we've received at the four seasons and the ritz. Carolina was quick to arrange a last minute outing, transport, and even arranged luggage pick up from another hotel while we were on an outing in the Amazon. And as if it couldnt get any better, the onsite restaurant is irresistible! The food was the simply among the best we had in our trip to Ecuador...even posh Zazu pales in comparison.

If you are fortunate enough to travel to Quito, Rumiloma is an experience in itself not to be missed.

Travelled from Cusco to Quito for two nights before heading off to the Galapagos. It is remote, high, secluded and absolutely gorgeous! We were greeted by two peacocks that were soon followed by two llamas, who were then followed by the manager! We had asked for the family suite as we were traveling with our two children. Unfortunately, I had used a travel agency to book this part of my trip and let them do the booking without double checking the rooms, so the room we had wasn't the room I had asked the agency to get for me - lesson learned: always check yourself. However, the manager was sweet enough to move us to the room I had wanted.
The suite was beautiful. Filled with an eclectic array of antiques displayed in a very unique and charming way. There were two bedrooms and two bathrooms. A huge main sitting area was separated from the jacuzzi by a quaint gate that looked like it was from a church. The windows were big, the rooms full of light and the little touches like fresh water in jugs, freshly baked cookies, a big fruit bowl and plates and cutlery were all laid out for us. It was a cool day and even cooler night, so the heaters that were brought it did much to dispel any chill. We decided to stay at the Hacienda for dinner as well. We have traveled extensively and have eaten in many countries, but I must say, that dinner at the Hacienda Rumiloma was an experience not to be forgotten. Everything we tried was exquisite. Our palates are as eclectic as the varied menu, so we tried a lot of things. The tom yum soup is still on my mind and was one of the best tom yum soups I've had. The ceviche was to die for. Tasty, fresh and delicious - served with plantain chips and popcorn, much to my kids' amusement! The sticky ribs, the lomo, the fish and the lamb with a blueberry compote - absolutely incredible. Everything was so fresh and very tasty. Kudos to the owner, Amber, who is responsible for tweaking all these recipes to perfection. When we came back to our suite after dinner, we discovered hot water bottles in our beds and peruvian ponchos to wear over our shoulders to ward off the night chill. After a very comfortable sleep, we got up the next morning and a few minutes later, heard some knocking at the door. Upon answering the door, we found our friendly neighborhood llama that came by to say "hi"! Breakfast was organized the night before and again, everything was great. The fruit was my favourite. The owner, Amber, took it upon herself to make sure we had just as nice of a suite for the coming night before we left for the day. She's a great lady and one shouldn't pass up a chance to talk to her and hear about her amazing tale of how an Irishwoman landed up in Quito! We also had an early morning flight the next morning and our pickup was at 4.30am. If you can believe it, the staff was up delivering hot chocolate and hot coffee to us at 4am and waving bye to us as we left. We definitely felt like we were leaving a family home. It's more of a quiet retreat to regenerate your mind and body and I definitely would come back here.

Room Tip: For a family of four, the Catherdral suite is very comfortable, especially with teens.

After a trip to the Galapagos a friend and I spent our last night and morning at Rumiloma before heading back to the U.S. It was quite a journey getting there from the airport through some pretty rough parts of Quito and up a steep, bumpy road. We were worried we'd made a big mistake. But when we arrived, all we could say was OMG! it was so beautiful, so serene, and so perfect in all it's details. I'm not usually a fan of "rustic charm", but this place was so awesome, perched high in the mountains with an amazing view of the lights of Quito below. There were so many places to sit and enjoy the view and property, from the terraced patio to the luscious "lounge" sitting rooms and even from the tub in our bathroom, surrounded by windows and candles. The food in the restaurant was superb, accompanied by impeccable service. A small path from the lobby/restaurant building led to the hacienda "homes". Peacocks added charm. I don't think the photos on their website do justice to how wonderful the rooms were. Everything looks dark, but by day the light streams in. We had a sunken sitting room with skylights and a bougainvillea growing out of the ground, wood burning fire, and an upper level bedroom with huge plate glass windows overlooking the forest in one direction and the city lights in the other direction. The turn down service with real hot water bottle bed warmers topped off our stay. I wish we could have stayed several days and never left the property! I highly recommend that anyone planning a trip to the Galapagos or Andes add a couple of extra nights at the end of your trip and stay here. It will be an exceptional memory to take home!

Stayed at Rumiloma in the fall. Beautiful hotel a little rustic but that's what they're going for Huge rooms with lots of windows antique furnishings right down to the copper bath tub. They light a fire for you so your room is warm when you arrive and and you get a hot water bottle for your bed.
The breakfasts were excellent, dinner was on the expensive side, but very well prepared and presented. I liked that it is a little ways out of town so it's quiet but close enough to be convenient They have a car service. . Nice views from the rooms. Awesome place.
The staff are really friendly and help full

Room Tip: All of the rooms have their own unique character
