“If you love art you must visit here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2014

It was raining in Quito and not knowing what to do I researched trip advisor and came to la capilla del hombre. At first I cursed the rain but now thank my lucky stars because we visited here.
Who is the artist he is a national treasure to the country of Ecuador and South America I normally do not write a review on any attractions but have made an exception for this man himself is an exception. Born in 1920 he became the contemporary of Picasso and indeed his work has the same tormented passion. He loved life women and Quito. In coming to this site you are privileged to go through the exhibits and then the Casa de Museum which was the house he lived in for the lat 20 years of his life. He died in 1999. To go into his house was a privilege to understand the mind of the man himself The house is full of religious statues yet he was agnostic. He loved women and his collection of erotica statues reflects his sexual awareness of women and love. His work studio was disciplined and yet showed his enormous use of colour in each of his subjects
The art gallery contains priceless works of his life's journey and admittedly his topics and creativity do reflect a very deep and dark side of his character. The paintings leave you asking questions of yourself. Absolutely fabulous thank god for rainy days as I would have come to Quito just to see this attraction of an artist Guayasamin whose story needs to be recognised world wide for his genius
One good tip if you have read this far catch a cab there which is about $3-5 dollars each way have the cab wait which will cost about an extra $10 and for $20 plus the $6 entry fee you will have one of the most mesmerising afternoons in the South Americas

“Art and design”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2014

The only thing really worth to visit in Quito, apart from the OLd Town. Guayasamin art is fantastic, even if you don't enjoy art, you will no regret to visit his house (capilla del hombre is just outside)

Tips: Take a taxi there, very cheap, ask first if driver knows the place, many of them did not.

Very cheap, it is up in the hills, then it is chilli.

Well now they have closed the Foundation Museum and they have put it together at the Chapel with the highlight that the also opened the house of the famous Guayasamin and now you can admire his workshop, and residence which is an added attraction.

Site, building design, art, personality of this amazing artist. We went to spend an hour or two, and couldn't tear ourselves away in under 4 hours.
